what weight oil do you run? (south)
#1
I've always run 5/30 in my new cars.. I went to a new dealer today for the TCM upgrade and asked for an oil change. I asked them what they would use, they were very convincing about 10W40 because its so hot here now and we rarely drop below 20 during the winter. My main hesitation is that the car only has 8K miles and I dont want to jump up in weight until I really need to. I still have time to change that with a call.. what do you think, 10w40 is best for 105 desert-like southern weather?

There full of it. Have them read the manual ->
Nissan recommends 5W30 for ALL temperatures. 10W30 is an alternative if temps exceed 95/100 degrees.
10W40 may work okay for one oil change, but I would stick with what Nissan recommends...the higher the oil viscosity beyond the engine needs, you're simply increasing pumping losses...ie reducing power...with no advantages...unless the car were to overheat or something else happens to cause a drastic increase in cylinder temperatures.
FYI I'm in Texas and tried going to 10W30 last summer. I did notice the engine ran less smoothly (mild diff) and had slightly less power...I now run only 5W30 all year.
