Transmit: FF FF E7
Recieved: FF FF E7
Register: Failed
And we can't get any further than that. We used "Register Finder" and got no results from that. It scanned through a bunch of stuff but didn't give us any indication that any of the registers worked.

For me I just choose the Engine ECU (rather than trans) and hit Autoscan.. those codes you see (hex ones) are the init string being sent to the ECU.

ok once u manually do a search and get the codes that works for your ecu, u then take those figures and on the bottom of the connect page it should say advance under the ecu finder tab. click on the advance and then add the code u got and then hit auto scan once again. if that doesnt work pm me and let me kno

This is very interesting thx you guy s
but what the advantage of consult 2 over stardart obd2
EDIT: I found some nice stuff over Phatg20 forums
theres the diagram +

I have both the DataScan and the ScanTech. Personally I like the latter better, as it includes more custom setup flexibility and will work with almost any Consult-I interface (virtually any Nissan pre-year 2000, either OBD I or II). These programs don't work with Consult-II which uses different protocols.
Both these programs are essentially scanners/dataloggers which are faster and include extra functionality over an OBD scanner since they use the Consult port not the OBD port. You can datalog, pull/clear codes, and do active tests such as TEMPORARILY adjusting timing, turning off cylinders etc. On the 4th gen Max you cannot however, change rev limits or timing/fuel maps permanently with them. This is a limit of the ECU having only a PROM, not an EPROM. You cannot write to the chip, only read from it. The ECU ROM can be downloaded as a .bin file and certain addresses watched etc but you can't upload a new program. It could be used to potentially compare aftermarket and stock maps if you could find the appropriate address ranges.
For those who are trying the ScanTech, you'll notice that you can select the module to access (engine, a/t, a/c, hicas etc). HICAS is for the 300zx and not applicable. Each module has an initialization code that must be sent in order for connection to be established. This is what the program is doing when you scan the ECU, it's scanning to see what the valid strings are.
I have found that the engine init string for a 96 is FF FF EF and for a 98 is FF FF ED. I've also used the program on older cars such as a Sentra with no problems.
For any vehicle, if it's the first time hooking up to it, I'd do the ECU scan. It'll generally give you three or four init strings. You can then try setting each of them under the advance button 'engine' field until you find the right one.
On another note, I have tried the free Conzult and Ztalk but they do not seem to initialize or report properly with the A32.
