What is involved to make the speedo work?

I recently swapped trannies on my 97 and the speedo has not worked. I did crack the little plastic drain plug that has the wire connected, not sure if that would make it no work?

yeah. I did superglue the little piece back on. It was just a corner that broke, it just looked like solid plastic, didnt look like it would do much? Do you think that would make it not work? just a little corner?

I wouldn't think so but it could have been broken before hand.

Why not try swapping the old one?

I did pick up a 2k tranny. I will take the one off that and try it.

Is that the only thing involved in making it work? I mean, as long as the harness is plugged in, then it goes back to the ecu? nothing else involved?

What you cracked is actually the reverse/neutral position switch. The vehicle speed sensor/speedometer pinion is right above the differential on the back side of the tranny. It's directly above where the control rod connects to the tranny.
