Has anyone ever experienced their car idling at
1k RPM when stopped in traffic? i was in traffic
and when i appiled the brakes, i felt the car pulling
and the idle was at 1k when stopped. This happened on and off last week. When I re-started my car, the RPM
will drop back down to about 600RPM which is normal.

I think most of us have sufffered from low RPM at idle...
Maybe check the throttle cable to see if it's too tight? Maybe it's getting snagged or something. Just a thought.
I think it idles higher naturally when the A/C is on as well.

Your throttle cable may be dirty, I had a problem like that with a toyota. A slight layer of gunk had built up on it.

If that was the problem the symptoms whould always be there not only once in a while. The thing I would check first is your spark plugs, since they play a major role in idle. I had some horrible idle problems that came and went and it was do to my spark plugs. It could also be a week o2 sensor. Good Luck with your problem.

idle air control unit or air regulator is most likely clogged with carbon deposits. Pull off the hoses leading to them and spray intake throttle body cleaner which should break up the deposits.

I notice that in stop and go traffic, my idle RPM's go up slightly as well. Usually the car idles at around 600 RPM, but if I am like stuck at a bridge toll plaza, the RPM's might jump to 750 or 800. I think it may have something to do with engine cooling. I know that the faster the engine turns, the quicker the coolant circulates through the cooling sleeves. Kind of a "left field" explaination, but that's the best I can come up with.

But 1k seems very high to me.

That sounds scary. What is an AAC and where is it?

keep in mind i have a 3rd gen. your 4th gen may be different.
my AAC is stuck open..so car won't idle at all right now...basically the car is dead if i don't hold the gas.

High idle is generally caused by an air leak. It can be a vacuum line, something stuck in the idle up system or an EGR valve.
