tint question

Summer heat is hell with black leather interior so I wanted to get my windows tinted. The problem is, NJ state law does not allow tinting of the front door and windshield glass. Would it be possible to get something very light and perhaps pass for oem type tint that some car have? Does such light tint even exist? I could contrast with limo tint in the back to create an illusion of untinted front glass. This would have to pass inspection of course...what are your thoughts?

If the law says "NO" thats the law, and if you try to tint, and you go thru inspection, and they catch you, OH WELL!!!!
WE here in Az. have laws on tint that are ignored, and the cops cannot see inside, so they aproach any vehicle like that with extreme caution, and with one hand on their weapon! Earl

How about 35%? This is a light shade and is most acceptable for passing inspection. Not sure how strict NJ is about tint percentage in the front, if any at all. I live in PA and our state law doesn't allow dark tint in the front windows also, but they are more concerned of the safety issues of the car. It's just the police you have to worry about. It sucks if they (police) ticket you and make you take it off, which is even worse. I have 20% all the way around and never had a problem.

There is no point in tinting the front because its either too dark and the police will make you take it off, or too light to help with the sun. Get a windshield screen thingie if you're that concerned about the sun.

Some people who really like tints go to extremes and buy an extra set of glass and install it before inspections. Then put the tinted ones back on afterwards.

I'm in NJ, with 35% all around. I've never been pulled over because of my tints. You'll have to find a private inspection station that will "overlook" your tints on the front windows. The state inspection centers will fail you immediately. I had mine tinted just after I had a state inspection done. I don't have to worry about it for 3 years.

Here's a shot of 35% tint all around.

I have 35%F and 5%R...cops don't seem to mind around North Jersey but you won't pass inspection at all.

When you say 35 all around do you mean windshield also?? I was planning on getting 35 sides and back, maybe 50 windshield. Where did you go for yours and what brand/type??

in general if you tint the windshield your asking for trouble from the cops. tinting the windshield will make all the other windows look even darker then they are because your cutting even more light from entering the vehicle. that and i think it would be dangerous at night.

Buy a retractable sun visor when parked during summer months & charge your A/C.
Tinting a front window in a car is just crazy...

I've seen a couple of trade in vehicles with tints on the windshield (lightest shade of course) and to be honest with you it looks nice and the previous owners never got pulled over for it, and driving at nights was no problem...but it all depends on luck

i got 35 on the front sides and 15 on the back, the cops dont really care, driven by them many times. but i cant pass DMV inspection, but i go to this gas station by my house and they usually give stickers with tinted cars. i think if you tint your front wind shield 40% it should be fine, ive seen some guys 40% tint, it didnt even look like it was tinted, but to me thats a waste of a tint and your money.

Yea, I'm pretty sure 50% tint will be barely noticeable, especially with the other windows darker. No risk driving at night.

Plus, 50 still blocks a significant amount of heat in summer.

I had that. Cop actually calls the doctor to check if it's legit. Doc would have to answer phone while he's w/ a patient and that's a hassle so my doc refuses to write me a note.

Just a thought, ever try rolling your front windows all the way down before inspection? I had illegal front tints in TX, and that worked for me. Did get stopped once and got a warning, nothing else came of it.

actually that never happened to me and it does not make any sense for the cop to call the doctor.
if the cop is a d!ck, and they usually are, then he will still give you the tickets and tell you to fight them in court.
in the past month and a half i received 8 tint tickets and stopped twice more but let go because of the note.
i would highly recommend this for any person with tints, especially if you live in brooklyn as the cops are *********** and love to harras people!!!
