What do you think about PIAA?

I'm thinking about getting the GT X series bulbs....although it's against my better judgement.

Are you going for pure looks or for actual performance?

I love mine, I think they have great output and are about as close as you can get to HID's without getting HID's...

i had GTx before i got HIDs and they were the closest to xenons. oh, and if you raise the headlight beam, it looks even more like xenons (makes them look brighter but not bright enough to blind oncoming traffic)

I want to improve night time driving...BUT am really interested in aes***ics so, I'm in it for the looks.
My HKS Power Beams finally had a filament burnout...so I want something more import style.

On a side note: just for kicks I ordered some Neon Red bulbs just to see how they look...for only $15.00 I figured "what the heck!".

Is $73 Shipped a good price for the PIAAs?

THIS is the best price I found when I got them, they also have great customer support. I had one burn out in less than a year, two days later I had a new set on my doorstep no questions asked.

Do you perhaps have anymore photos?
Is this an accurate representation of how they look in reality?
How much light did you lose over using clear bulbs...due to the blue tinting?

I'm still going to get some, I just wanna know.
Thanks

My father purchased a set of H3's (or maybe they were H4's) for his Honda Odyessy and they blew within a few weeks.

To those who've had them blow out...
Just to make sure...
Did the person who installed them make sure not to let his or her fingers come in contact with the bulb?

I would not say I lost any light from the tinting... the output is the best I have ever had from any bulb.

As far as them blowing out... I had the filiment(sp?) break on my drivers after 8 months. However, they have a year warranty so I called LTB and they sent a new one out right away no problems. the "new" ones are going on a year old with no problems. If anything having them blow at 8 months was a blessing, it got me so far another year for "free"...

More pics...

To say that not losing any light output due to the blue tint is actually impossible. A blue tinted bulb is just a blue tinted bulb, pay $25 you get 99.9% samething as a $80 Piaa bulb.

I paid about $50 or so for my h3 extreme whites. They have been great, had them for a year actually this week and they are fine. I made sure to not touch them while installing. That could have contributed to their life.I actually did forget to put that little wire cover thing on the new bulb wires when I installed them, but no problems so far...:knocks on wood:::

This is good info. cause I've been trying to decide whether I should get some PIAA's to replace my stock bulbs. I work overnights so I've decided they really aren't the greatest for visibility on dark highways! I'm just worried about spending almost $100 then having them burn out so I have to spend more money to replace them. Maybe I'll ask for some as an XMas present!

HID owns all, just make a small investment of $250 and go to the group buy section and your lighting needs are done.

Are there shields or something available to deal with the glare they create? I always hear people complaining about HID's in our stock housing. I would love to but that is money I want to put towards lowering the car!

Yep, H4 shield should be included or can easily be bought.

I had PIAA super white(i think?). Got them in the end of January 2005 and I had 1 blow outa few weeks ago. I installed them myself and I know i did not touch the bulb. Thats about 9 months and I had one blow. Being the idiot I am I didn't save the packaging and knew I wouldn't get it warrentied. I went out and got Sylvania Silverstars and I am just as happy. I did replace the blown one first and compare them. The PIAA was a diff color(barely) but as for brighter, I have noticed nothing different. But in the 9 months I had the PIAA's I was never once flashed. The first week I had my silverstars I was flashed by someone at a stop light.

PIAA's = $55+
Silvania Silverstars = aprox $30. (I saw them on sale somewhere)

Of course not, everyone knows not to touch a halogen bulb.

I know you will lose some output with a tint....

What I was trying to say was... eventhough they are tinted they have the best output I have ever seen from any bulb, and I have tried many... They are the best by a long shot.

Out of curiousity, have you ever compared with MTEC or Luminics bulbs?

MTEC, yes; they were ok. I think the Piaa's give off a better color and go further down the road.

Now for my next question:
I know the life of typical "high performance" bulbs tend to be quite short...
but how long would a set of higher wattage bulbs last?
I figure I can get a set of Hella 80/100w bulbs for $20...and if they last a year that's alright.
Anyone here experiemented with higher wattage bulbs.

Certain cars can take high wattage bulbs no problem, but I wouldn't recommend it as you never know the long term effects. Even the "strongest" factory harnesses burn out eventually, say in 2 years or so.

Is $73 Shipped a good price for the PIAAs?

I recently bought a pair of GT-X 55W from Options Auto Salon for $54.06 shipped. I replaced some Xtreme White 55W because one bulb burned out after 3 + years. I like them so far.

I replaced a SilverStar bulb in my motorcycle with a PIAA bulb and I really could not tell any difference. It was the Extreme White 55/65 rated at 100/110 output. I need to replace a bulb in my just purchased 96 Maxima and probably will not go with PIAA
