Nissan Develops Scratch Proof / Healing paint

TOKYO (Dec. 2, 2005)-- Nissan Motor Co., Ltd., has developed the world’s first clear paint that repairs scratches on painted car surfaces, including scratches from car-washing machines, off-road driving and fingernails.

“Scratch Guard Coat” contains a newly developed high elastic resin that helps prevent scratches from affecting the inner layers of a car’s painted surface. With “Scratch Guard Coat” a car’s scratched surface will return to its original state anywhere from one day to a week, depending on temperature and the depth of the scratch.

Fresh Scratches

Week Later

Pretty cool stuff if you ask me. And for only 450 bucks not a bad investment at all. I'd be surprised if every auto maker moved towards this technology. Nissan FTW!

if true, that would certainly be a 180-degree turnaround from the current paint used on the maxima, which chips and scratches if somebody gives it a dirty look or some wind hits it

Not sure if it would work to perfection like that, but definately a cool concept. I wonder if the dealers will let us scratch up their cars to test it...

Its like one of those blue inks that you can throw on a shirt and it just doesn't mess up your shirt but turns into water... old kindergarten stuff (not the paint)
