This was really stupid to do but I think I really have something wrong w/ me...I can NEVER turn down a race.

I was cruising home from work on a rural road (45mph)...
A REALLY nice 2001 black Vette (w/ a temp tag still on his rear window) pulls out in front of me...
We're doing the speed limit cuz there's an old Monte Carlo infront of the Vette...
The Monte makes a left turn & there's open road infront of the Vette now...

I guess he hears my loud A$$ exhaust & thinks i wanna race..
So he hits it hard and the sucker squats & pulls hard...
With my cat-like reflexes I'm immediately in pursuit...
I downshift from 3rd to 2nd @ 45mph (rite in power band)...
I'm on his A$$ in no time & we're quickly at 70mph...
I figured he was gonna let off soon...BUT NOOOOOOO!
He stays in it and before I know it i'm at the redline in 3rd gear (100mph)!!!
That's when i decide to let off and slow the fu@k down.
He stays in it about another second till he realizes I hit the brakes then slams on his brakes (reality set it?)...

RESULTS:
I was 2 car lengths behind him from 45mph-100mph the entire time...so neither of us could pull on each other...
I chalk this one up as a tie...

I'm not sure if the Vette was stick or auto but it really doesnt matter...i'm proud of the Max either way...I did notice that there were 2 people in the Vette...and I hope for his sake it wasnt his girlfriend cuz he must've been pretty embarrased spending $50K on his new sports car & not being able to leave a "family car" waaay back in his mirror.

I seem to have that same problem...

Memorial weekend I had the pleasure of racing a late 90's Vette from a stop, but I was not as fortunate as you were. When he decided he was done fooling around, he left me in the dust.

with a professional driver...yes.
like i said, i dont know if it was auto or stick...
auto is considerably slower than 13.0...
plus i should be at low 13's now that i have basically no exhaust on the car

I drove my friends 2001 Auto Vette and that thing hauls ***. It has a performance gear ratio on it and off the line it just pulls hard. Your car is pretty quick if it can stay with a vette. His car runs low 13's btw. On the highway it isnt as fast though, mainly because of the 4 speed auto.

I had a similar experience with a late model Vette. From about 65-110mph, I stayed with him pretty well...never more than about 2-3 carlengths. He was really trying as I could see the car squat and his exhaust fumes change color. This was before my new tranny and Don's VB. For 2x the cost of my car new, that Vette should be faster.

You're right about it not mattering whether the Vette is auto or sitck. That car makes so much torque that it overcomes the inherent weaknesses in the auto when compared to stick.

As for your race, that guy in the Vette wasn't even pushing it.

Don't get me wrong, I love my Max, and I'd race a Vette, but I'd expect him to just LEAVE. That would definitely be the case if I was driving the Vette. I'd be like,(me in the Vette talking to the other driver) 'I don't know if I took off too fast for you, but did you get a chance to even see my tail lights?'

I doubt the dude was embarassed being in a brand-new vette with temp tags. It's like a Labrador or Golden Retriever and a terrier. The big dog will only play with the little dog, while the little dog is yelping away. It usually takes an equal size dog to challenge before the Retriever's fight instinct kicks in.

Cool

I believe you.
This coming from a guy who used to munch on WS6 firebirds in a lowly DX civic (with a big BIG shot of nitrous).
More power to the modded-to-the-gills family cars, by god.
A blown Maxima is cooler than a 2001 vette ANY day.

You're right, my bad. Since you have an SC, the performance gap shouldn't have been as big as I thought it would be. I thought you were NA.
