Wtf

Bad news, my step dad takes his 01 max and trades it in for a 2006 Hyundai Sonata and then my mom calls and tells me that the sonata is faster than the max and I am like WTF. Just thought I should share.

I don't think that is right, I would have remembered if a Hyundia could beat a max. It was just reviewed in Car and Driver, and all I could find on the internet was a 7.7 0-60 and a 15.1 1/4 time, so she is wrong.
By any chance does the Hyundia have quicker throttle tip-in? Detroit used to do that on purpose to give the appearance that their crappy cars were faster when they really weren't.
Why does your mom care? Why is she calling you about this?

She does not really know what she is talking about, I just think it's really bad to trade in your max for something like that. I will get some pics by the end of the week when i go to FL.

Those new Sonatas actually look pretty nice. And for all of you bashing Hyundai, they have come a long way in terms of reliablity and quality.

I thought the main subject of this thread was essentially whether the Hyundia was faster than the max, I wasn't bashing it at all.
I think their getting their act together, it is actually pronounced Hi-oon-die, but they figured the American and Europeans would find that funny and they wouldn't be taken seriously.
I still would find it hard to justify doing that switch though, unless the payment is a lot lower, I don't think it was a great move.

My comments were not directed at you, it was directed at those that imply the Hyundai is inferior to the Maxima as far as quality and reliability. That may have been true in the 90's, but not so anymore. As far as performance, the new Sonatas would give the 00-01 Maxima a run for its money. Don't get me wrong, I would never ever even think about buying an Hyundai, but at least get your facts straight.

Wrong forum........Who cares .....

An SRT-4 is faster than a Max, but it's still a neon...

How does your mom know it's faster, just because she says? Does she have timing equipment?

Moms and car knowledge are typically not a good comparison.

Ummm.. a lot of the Japanese carmakers do that, if you look a 2nd Gen RX-7 looks eerily similar to a 944, the lexus convertible looks a lot like the Audi TT, Honda, Toyota, Nissan, all have stolen from BMW, Audi, Austin Martin, Jeep, Land Rover, etc..
hell the old Z's and Toyota 2000's (I think that's what I mean) look a lot like the old jag XK line.
There is nothing wrong with copying and improving (if in fact that's what's accomplished).
Dodge is probably the puts the most radical things into production, exterior design wise and they've hit some homeruns with that (Minivans in particular), Viper, PT (gay but unique), Ram truck, Durango, Neon (kinda sorta), Crossfire (unique but a flop).
If you think of the American automakers as a whole, they try some crazy and sometimes stupid things (Aztec comes to mind). But they sometimes copy too, the old Avante are somewhat based on a SL600.

umm its actaully pronounced "hyun-dae" you have to read it like "hun" but add the y in it. not "hy un die" i hope you were only joking. just trying to make that clear since no one seems to know how to pronouce the name. korean cars have no sense of style. theyre cars are geared towards people who doesnt care about looks. but care about the value and the cheapness of the car. their quality isnt all that great either, but i hope in the near future they step ti up. i mean they have come a long way, the new sonata isnt so bad, but i still wouldnt get it though. the tiburon isnt so bad either.

if you are racing by mag times and the hyundai does 15.1 in the qtr mile, then that is the same time for a 5spd 00-01 manual

No, I wasn't joking, but I got that pronunciation from Car and Driver a while back when they were doing some piece on the maritime engines and other stuff they make besides cars.
So, from what you're saying the way the commercials say it is correct? If C&D is it will be unusual but not impossible.

Most new cars nowadays will wax a max especially if it is a v6. More and more of them are coming out with more power. The 2004 accord coupe was rated at 260hp stock with a 3.0. Vtec may have been a factor, but that's still pretty good for that displacement.

Pass over that stuff, because you're smoking too much of it on your own.

Your statement is too vague.

What gen of max are you talking about here?

I'd love to race a 260 hp Accord with my 260 hp maxima. Both have roughly the same HP, so it should be really close

HP ratings mean precisely jack sh*t.

As for the new Sonata, it's a 100% carbon copy of the previous Accord. Hyundai is in the business specifically because they specialize in making cheaper copies of better cars. And they're pretty good at it.

its not about peak horsepower. If you read the shop talk portion from our main webpage you can see the dyno chart analysis written by SteVTEC between maximas and other vehicles such as the new accord. You will see then that the ownage is actually the other way around

personally i think thats how the accord should have looked in the first place. Personally i think the sonata has a more aggressive look than the new accords. though i would still pick the accord over the two, i would have to digress that the styling on the sonata is better than the accords.

My fault fellas I thought the post was about someone trading in a 2001 max for a 2006 hundyai. You guys are right.

2006 hundyai 3.3L vs 2001 maxima 3.0L is not a fair race. The maxima would win since we drive them.

yeah, hondas is an SOHC v-6 and its only 240 HP, and with vTEC is around the same torque as a stock vq30. http://www.edmunds.com/apps/vdpconta...8/pageNumber=1
read the next paragraph after they talk about the hondas engine. the altimas are lighter but take a 5.5 6 spd and its the same story. what else is there, camry only comes with a 190 hp v6.. i'm a big GM fan and actually wanted a prix GTP before my max. 260 hp/280 ft/lbs does give the max a run but they're within a few tenths of each other, the prix that DOES beat it is the new GXP 5.3 V8, and it talks about nissan, infiniti and BMW being the closest contenders on their webpage. not honda. http://www.pontiac.com/grandprix/con...?pageSection=3
what else...yeah a mustang GT can wax the maxima(05+) but its not a race car, im just saying it'll hold its own in most car segments.
