Sorry to hear about your friend.

I had a couple of friends die from automobile related accidents. It's a terrible thing to have to go to, and makes me weak to this day when I think about. I wish your friend or whoever was the one who was injured all the best.

He didn't pay the price, someone else did. But obviously he feels terrible about it.

He did a stupid thing, but that really sucks for you, him, and definitely the other kid. Best of luck to you guys, hope you all come out okay.

Then why isn't all the old Canadian's that drive down to Florida and cause a lot of accidents insurance high?
Or why isn't all the old people that can't see worth a crap driving around in Florida's insurance high?

If you ever watch those 60 minutes things, you will notice that while some teenagers arent the best drivers, a lot of adults suck too. Maybe those same sucky teenage drivers grow up to be crappy adult drivers, or they don't make it to adulthood.

All that being said, people make mistakes, even good drivers, even very good drivers. Race drivers by definition are better drivers and they wreck quite a bit, different situations, but this kid was obviously pushing it doing that in a suburban, and well he made a mistake.
Hopefully his friend heals up to good as new, and he has good insurance. I just hope your friend understands when he gets sued, because he should get sued, covering damages is what insurance is for anyway.

I hope the guy with the broken neck DOES sue him. For the rest of his life he is not going to be "normal" again....so why should he live with pain becuase some MORON decided to drive 50mph in a parking lot? I hope he gets pain and suffering and anything else they feel he's entitled to.

the dude with the broke neck is not goin to have to have surgery, however he has to wear a halo for 3 months.I did not take my camera but i did go look at the burban. Its a wonder none of them died.My other friend told me that he heard the dude talkin about sueing them.not the 1 with a broke neck but the 1 in the front seat.he gashed his head open and cut his arm.Its not that he is a bad driver its just that he is young and stupid.he learned it all from his dad who cant drive either( he is all ways doing 70-75 in a 50 mph zone. They are all very lucky that they lived. The roof has a huge crease in it wear it bent.its hard to explain.

I have no pity for the kid who did 50mph in the parking lot...it's the injured that needs it.

Two things about this,
1. His parents have insurance on that Surburban, so as long as they don't have crappy minimal coverage they might come out of this with no money out of their pocket (except for increasing insurance coverage). The only time they can get into the parents assest is if the whole thing goes to trial and the amount exceeds the insurance maximums. Sometimes you would have to do a separate suit to get at their assests, which is warranted if their insurance sucks.
2. Honestly, they should have made sure he knew how to drive better, it is certainly not ALL their fault. I feel for all of these kids parents, I did some stupid things when I was younger too, but usually I didn't endanger others. There were obviously people around, a parking lot isn't the place to do this, at the very least his parents should have taught him to NOT do that in a occupied parking lot.

Everyone needs to eas-up on this kid. To be old and wise you have to be young and stupid first. Every single person on this forum, hell, on earth has done stupid $%#@. Many of us got lucky on more then one occassion during these dumb acts. So how can any of us judge this kid. If u guys want to judge anybody, why weren't the other kids wearing their seat belt.......
With the kid who broke his back/neck, were vertebras broken or was his spinal cord severed????? I ask because that could make the difference between walking or not walking.

What a tragedy. I will keep them all in my prayers.

It only takes one mistake to change your/someone elses life forever. The kid with the broken neck may never be the same again. And he was completely innocent . . . its sad.

Damn bro that really sucks, trust me i know how it feels for your friend that was driving. I got into a wreck in my 98 GLE and broke my best friend's leg(femur). Can't describe the feeling of being completely at fault for it. It has made me a more cautious and safe driver though, and i hope this holds true to your friend also. Good luck with everything.

I don't think the kid should get sued because that will do nothing but needlessly hurt his parents. However if he does get sued, I think that's dumb for another reason. Clearly I can't possibly know this for a fact but I'm sure the other kids in the car were totally fine with him blasting through the lot like that, probably even thought it was "cooool". That is until the **** hit the fan. Then again maybe the kid in the front really didnt like it at all, then that changes everything. But from what I've noticed in seeing kids doing stupid things in cars, it's usually the passengers, as well as the driver, thinking its all fun and games.

How can you people say you think its wrong for him to be sued?
If you broke your back because of somebody driving like that, you wouldnt sue the kid who made you never walk again?

lowandslow88 sorry to hear about your mate and his passengers but 50 in a parking lot? THAT'S JUST NOT F***ING ON! Kids, Mothers, Families...Save that s.h.i.t. for the track!

Glad they were in a big, solid car to handle the impact or they'd all be dead.

I apologise for swearing but a parking lot?

Is the guy with the cracked vertebrae going to be alright? God, I hope so.

Are you really that stupid or do you not have an imagination? Do you really think that because someone cant walk their life is basically over? My friends cousin is paralyzed from the waist down and is a race car driver. There are plenty of things you can do that dont require the use of your legs.

Everytime I read/hear stories about accidents or something bad happening because of someone just being stupid, I feel aboslutely no remorse. He did something stupid and thats what happens...sucks to be him.

70-75 in a 50 and 50 in a parking lot does mean he is a bad driver, regardless of age and who taught him how to drive, as well as reckless and uncaring of the people in his car and others around him. Sorry to hear about this event(purposely not using the word accident here becuase it wasn't) but if I were you I would be pissed at my friend driving for being stupid enough to do this.

Seriously, sueing someone usually isn't like some face to face showdown like a custody battle. Yes, he should have been wearing his seatbelt, but if this kid crashed at 5-20mph, and then the kid got hurt BECAUSE he wasn't wearing his seatbelt, that's on him.
There is a few bad moves in this incident it sounds like to me, however, since the kid driving was essentially the "captain" of the ship he bears the most responsibility.

maX ..I mean maX5...f*ck you, that's a retarded way of thinking. Being injured isn't free, if indeed he can't walk, he has to get special cars so he can drive, live in a special house so he can get around it. There are a lot of associated costs and problems with being in a wheelchair that your dumbass never would think about, primarily because it's obvious you don't think. I suppose you're just one of those 17 year olds that won't make it to 25. You actually give other teenagers a bad name. It's guys like you that make us that actually pay "real" taxes and not bagboy $200/week taxes think that the school system is obviously messed up. You're not getting a regents diploma are you?

50 mph in a parking lot is stupid.
50 mph in a school parking lot during school hours between classes is beyond stupid. Hopefully the kid with the broken neck will recover fully. It's good to hear that the doctors think he'll be able to walk again.

They won't lose everything. Believe it or not, people can still file for bankruptcy. This is one of the reasons I have been contemplating a large blanket insurance policy, however. Like it or not, his parents are ultimately responsible and financially liable for his behavior. Perhaps he should have considered that before pulling his stunt, but on the surface it sounds like he may be a bit of a spoiled brat. His parents should have been paying closer attention to junior's driving habits, especially before turning him lose on the public streets in the automotive equivalent of an M1 Abrams tank. 50mph in a crowded parking lot is beyond even careless or negligent, it's plain reckless and endangering. What would have happened had he hit one of those people at 50mph? Personally, I hope this kid loses his license and ability to drive for some time. He obviously has a lot of growing up to do.

That's a tragedy, obviously the driver didn't use is good sense and made a terrible mistake. So I wont judge anyone cuz we all did stupid thing in our life, but some are luckier than others. I have compassion for people who are suffering but I feel it is necessary to say that all of this could be avoided with a proper judgment. I hope they all get better with the time, but the price to pay will remain very high, wether it will be a in the painfull recovery, insurance increase but worst is the memories that will stay forever in the mind of the one who got injured, lets hope that these guys once they receover become speaker of the good sense for the futur generation.
