RSB and Springs.....

Hi, I wanted to get my RSB and lowering springs put on my maxima so I called around for some estimates.

My girlfriend says she has this friend who knows a mechanic and could do it cheap. I said great, call him! Its always good to know a good person to work on your car, and for cheap!

She gets back to me and says he will do the work but he'll need the car for 2 FULL days and to install everything is going to be $500!!!!

Now, I am not an expert on working with cars, but that does sound rediculous to others right??

As I understood it you raise the car, take off the wheels, take off the old springs and RSB, install the new ones, put the wheels back on and check the alignment right?? I know its more complicated than that but I figure a good mechanic with a lift and proper tools, it shouldn't take 2 FULL days!

Anyway, just wanted some thoughts on what a more reasonable price might be.

Better yet, does anyone know a good place that does suspension in the Los Angeles area??

thanks,

-MO-

I personally know the RSB is a simple/quick job. yet, when I asked dealer, they wanted almost $200
So in stealer terms, 4 more installs (springs) for $300 is a GREAT deal I'd look elsewhere, or ask a fellow Orger to help in the WestCoast forum.

Yeah, you could even do it yourself (rent a spring compressor and some jackstands and rampstands) or with another org member. RSB is an absolute breeze to install and springs aren't too bad either. After you're done take it to an alignment shop and have 'em do their thing, leaving you with a $70-100 bill instead of $500. Half a G is ridiculous for that.

Do the RSB yourself and get some .Orgers together to help ya with the springs. If you really have to pay a shop, it shouldn't be anything more than 2 hours work with a lift and air tools, which would equate to between 150-180 before taxes.

It should take no more than a 1/2 hour to install the RSB which you can do your self. I paid 135 dollars to install my lowering springs. It should not take more than a couple of hours to chg them. That guy is trying to rip you off. Check out some of the stickies in the 6th gen forum.

Tell your girlfriend to find another mechanic, she's probably getting ripped off as well. My shop does springs for $180 on 4th gen Max's. Alignment runs about $60. The RSB takes no more then 15 min. to install. The whole job should take no more then 2 hrs tops.

That must be some skilled mechanic your girl knows.

You're getting springs. Anything else like struts, strut mounts, strut bearings, spring insulators? If you get all that, I will help you assemble them. I work at a clinic on Lake and Washington and can stop by afterwork and help u out. Find me on IM.

Better yet, a few car guys are meeting tonight. IM (don't pm) me your phone number and I'll give u directions to where we're meeting up.
