BTW, I hated chemistry.
For the purposes of my illustration and its intended audience, I thought it best not to get into the periodic table and what not. Besides, if you really wanted to compare apples to apples, the atmospheric oxygen content is calculated (crudely) as a % volume, so you would have to calculate the volume of O:N in nitrous. Have fun with that. Just as with mass, you can't just add up the atomic radii to get the molecular radius, you have to apply molecular orbital theory from your physical chem classes. That goes way beyond the scope of this forum. Besides, those values will change with temperature, location, etc. so why bother getting so wrapped up in the precise numbers? Crude estimations work just as well and are easier to comprehend. BTW, I love chemistry, but hated most of my chemistry classes, if that makes any sense at all.

It make total sense, that's why I'm a landscaper...

what the heck do you think is in that fertilizer (sp?) that you're spraying/spreading?

yup pure oxygen would give you a flame front so fast that the block and head would both shatter and then the ali fragments would catch fire too.

I don't think that would happen.

There's a very good reason that nitrous is used and not pure oxygen. Nitrious is inert until the combustion chamber reaches a certain temperature at which point the oxygen is releasted from the nitrogen.

The VQ and most engines today, if not all, are port injected. The flame would start during the intake stroke and would prolly shatter your intake manifold. In addition, any oil or other substances in your intake manifold would ignite in the presence of pure oxygen.

Carbuerated engines would fare no better. The oxygen would ignite the fuel in the carb.

Don't play with oxygen. You'll be playing with fire, literally.

When they cut 6"+ steel plates they start the cut with oxy-acetylene, then they switch to pure oxygen once the cut is notched, it stays plenty hot enough on just oxygen...
