I just got mine done Monday....20% all around, 15% on the sunroof. I'm not too worried about it...all of our other vehicles are 20%, and those include a black lifted Super Duty and a black Cadillac STS, and we haven't been bothered. Unless I'm doing something really dumb, I figure I'm ok. *knock on wood*

Yeah well I have 443 friends who are state troopers, 123 who are county police, 1,332 who are meter maids, 33 who are traffic court judges. My dad is the state police commissioner, and my mom is the state senator who wrote the police code. My brother is chief of the county police, and my sister is head of Homeland Security. WHO CARES?

The moral of this story: All of you STFU. If you had so many good buddies who were police officers they would have told you that your tint WAS illegal and that eventually you WOULD get a ticket for it.

It doesn't matter if there are quotas or not...the fact is: "IF YOUR TINT IS ILLEGAL, THE POLICE ARE PERFECTLY WITHIN THEIR RIGHT TO PULL YOUR *** OVER AND GIVE YOU A TICKET AND A REPAIR ORDER." Just because you never got pulled over before, doesn't mean you won't in the future.

Instead of blaming your ticket on "the cop was a jerk" or "the cop has nothing better to do" or "quota time" - how about you all man-up and blame yourself for getting illegal tint put on in the first place.

Little children blame other people for their mistakes. Men take responsibility.

I have illegal things on my car as well (ypipe, smoked sides, etc), and I've been failed on state inspection before....I fixed the stuff, got it re-inspected, passed, and put the stuff back on. It's the risk you take if you're going to do certain mods.

Either do it, and don't complain when you get caught - or don't do it and you'll never have to complain.

it's like the "I was going 81 in a 55 zone, and this cop pulled me over because he had nothing better to do/was bored/was in a bad mood/etc" threads

That's a safety thing that has nothing to do with tints. I do it all the time, no matter who I pull over.

I moved from Iowa last year where I was pulled over twice and ticketed for 20 ATR and never removed. I now live in FL with a different car same tint and nobody gives 2 **** as everyone here is tinted. Even the cops are riding on tints here.

Just always claim it was on there when you bought the car. Irish is a douche for tryin to make lame jokes. I will 2nd the whole Tints thing, it is TINT, not TINTS or as the Ghetto spell it TINTZ. If they tell you to take it off, just try to find a way around it, there is always a way around it.

i think the reason why they make the tint fines so cheap is that, when they are short on their "quota" they can pull over the people with tint on them since here in jersey i see too many cars with tint. if its so illegal and breaking the law? why aren't they so strict about them? its giving them reasons to pull you over. its like saying, "you can have tint, but youll have to pay us a fee to have them".

well im not sure about HI laws. since you say its 287 per window? that would be like $574 for having tint on front side windows. its $50 here, so i probably wouldnt get them if i ws in HI. and im sure they have less cars tinted than jersey.

Hawaii has some very strict laws. The tint law here is 35% light transmittance front, back and sides. If I were to get fined for illegal tint on all four doors, it would be $1148. It's a little harsh and I think some people have been let off with a warning since the new fine went into effect mid last year. I'd figure it's a deterrent so people would play by the rules. Finally a lot of cars here have tint cuz it sunny year round!

Is NJ really that strict nowadays? I live in Bergen and see sooo many cars with tinted windows. Maybe in some part of the state cops just don't care? *although I haven't been back for a while*

I am a cop in NJ and my department does not have quotas, nor is it mentioned. It is illegal. However, as a officer one of your job responsibilities is to issue summons, so if you aren't then what are you doing on the road? Since, I have my car tinted, I never pull anyone over for it. Unless the front window is tinted, then I just tell them they should remove it because they'll end of up getting hassled a lot. I know Wall PD is tough on tint. Forget the tinted car, I would much rather issue a summons to the idiot that throws his or her cigarette out the window. A littering fine isn't cheap.

yeah even patrol cars and unmarked crown vic's have 5% tints around. thats why im pissed. you should lead by examples. just because you are the authority, that doesntt mean you should abuse it. some local cops ive seen are undisciplined and very unprofessional.

I never got tints since I live in Chicago and drive around the suburbs. You never know whan a cop is going to pull you over or not. Generally the city cops don't care, but the suburban ones suck

havent heard of anyone around getting fined for that; i know the laws exist, but the cops dont enforce unless youre being a **** to them. i wanted the chrome tint and they made that illegal by the time i was ready to do it.

5% all around.

i guess i fall into the crown victoria category because i've had a few of them actually abort pursuit for some reason (OT users might remember...)

never been hassled for accessories or tint....

i used to have a 240sx with the smallest amount of tint. i went through inspection at the NJ DMV (need i say more) got all the way through, and just as I was about to head out. the guy tells me i need to take off all the tint. wouldn't let me go with a new sticker unless i went out, took it off, and got back in line. that day sucked.
