i wanna cause some drama which is faster

It's a little complex...
Most folks realize that Nissan did something to the 97-99 4th gens to make 'em a bit slower. So is the 4th gen you're talking about a 95-96, or a 97-99?
If it's a 95-96, I'd say that would win. If it's a 97-99, it'd be close, but the 5th gen would prolly win.

I'm with the Lord ;-)
95-96 might have a chance. The 0-60 is close even tho the 5th gens have more power, because the 5th gen gained so much weight. The 4th gen will edge it out, just barely. Need to put the 5ths on Jenny Craig.

You said no numbers, but I don't care :-p
Yeah, the 5th gen has more power and more torque. And yeah, it's a pretty good advantage(32hp, 18lb ft I think.). But it only helps if the weight doesn't negate the the extra power, which it does. That is why MT got a 0-60mph of 6.6 secs for a '95 SE, and 6.7 secs for a '00 SE.
Someone at Russ' board said the 5th gen would win if there was a passenger in the 4th gen. That's pretty obvious, since the weight advantage would be gone. And when cars that have a similar weight go up against each other, the one with the greater hp and torque would win. In that case, it'd be the 5th gen.

I've got a '98 GXE Auto. w/no majpr mods. Last Sunday going up I-95 from the DC 495 beltway. I was playing with a Chrysler Cirrus who thought he was the sh*t(I don't know what he was thinking because I ate him up every time he tried to pull away). As I was doing this, a 2K I30 w/ NJ plates (just the driver) pulled up behind me (FAST) around the 212 exit going north. I let him pass and then gunned it to keep up with him. I had no problem doing so, and left the Cirrus in the dust doing so. This suprised me. At one point we got turned around(me in front of him) due to traffic; and while I wasn't able to pull on him at WOT, he certainly wasn't pulling on me either. At one open straight stretch just past 175, I chased him WOT to 130mph again neither gaining or losing ground w/ him. Now given, we never did a standing start, but I had no problem hanging with this '00 model that supposedly has me beat in HP.

Re: Me...
I didn't know they made them in yellow. Did you get that painted? or is that a hacked image.

I bested their 1/4mi E.T by over 2/10ths...
14.93 in 100% stock 00' Max GXE 5-speed...
yea...GXE is slightly lighter than the SE they tested...
BUT IM 6'6" 300lbs...so that kinda makes up for it.
PS: I like numbers! (they don't lie)

Motor Trend averages thier times.....
Motor Trend takes the average of 8-10 1/4 mile runs AND they correct to atmosphere and altitude. Your 00 GXE is quick by all means, BUT you have said that you are a very experienced driver. Motor Trend uses complete lift throttle shifts (ie no quick shifting or power shifting).
What were trap speeds again? I forgot. You also run at a very quick track, so it's kinda hard to gauge your cars performance. Your running 14.9s stock and Jeff K ran 14.9s with an intake and muffler. Not bad considering the hp difference between the two Maximas.
Anyways, the point to this whole agrument is that the 222hp Maxima is not significantly quicker than the older 95-96 4th gens. I don't know why, but the 98-99 Maximas are a bit slower than the earlier models. I've raced 2 5 speed 5th gen Maximas and they weren't much of a competiton for my car. However, I've become a much better driver over the couple months and I'me pretty much my skill was a notch or two above their skills.
My opinion is a 5th gen Maxima is no quicker than a slightly modded 4th gen (intake, muffler).

actually....
i dont think Etown is a very fast track...
i consistently ran better at Atco (crappy track) with all my previous cars...so i'm curious how it'd do there...
as far as lift throttle shifting...
i do the same...
i found it VERY difficult to quickshift in my Maxima...
usually resulted in a missed gear...
so all shifts were made while lifting the throttle...
PS: my trap speeds were between 92-93mph... which is slightly lower than Motor Trend... To me this indicates that since they got higher MPH and a slower E.T., they were having traction problems (spinning)...

Of course MT ain't God...
I just used them b/c they're the ones I remember the best. And besides, it'd look stupid if I used a time from MT and then another from C&D. The way I did it, at least the numbers were generated in the same fashion. Consistency is the name of the game here.
And it's good that you got some better times, too. Nice run. There's a lot of 'production variables' as they call them, that can make one of a certain car perform differently than another. You might have gotten one that was faster or slower than MT's tester.

This might help your shifting....
I too found it hard to quickshift the Maxima at first. I'm guessing 3rd gear is the gear you get hung up on (I did). I found this works the best in a WOT blast. On the 1-2 shift, hold the shifter like a pistol grip (palm facing in) and bang 2nd. On the 2-3, take your palm and put it behind the shifter and push it forward. It will glide right into 3rd. I use to shift into 3rd with the same style I did on the 1-2 and I always got hung up between 1-3.
I guess the reason I say E-Town is a good track is because it is at sea level and it is prepped very well. It seems like guys pull off 2.1-2.2 60 foots pretty easily in their Maximas. My track is at 1000 feet, it's never prepped, and you ain't getting a 2.1-2.2 60 foot without drag tires because the entire launch pad is covered in rubber and the pad is actually rutted. I'm gonna go to Heartland Park (Topeka) in a few weeks. Heartland Park is actually a NHRA track and is prepped very nicely I hear.

yea....
thats the same technique i use...
you GOTTA do that or youre gonna miss 3rd/5th every time...
as far as track preparation goes...
i agree that Etown has VERY good preparation...BUT...
Atco (the ****ty track that it is) has MUCH better traction (in my opinion)... and i think the reason is because they DON'T clean the track very often...
RATHER, they just leave all that wonderful rubber all over the track and use a ****load (pardon the french) of VHT.
All things being equal...I ALWAYS run quicker @ Atco.
hey...maybe its just a co-inkie-dink!
I DUNNO....

Well, I have a 95 Max, and I beat a 2K Max SE last month (straight-away, from a red light). Of course, mine's modded, so that probably had a lot to do with it--beat him by about a car length, up to 75 MPH, then slowed down since we weren't on the freeway.
