/rant, im done with aftermarket ricer bulbs /rant

i really need to get this out !

i bought silverstar heads and fogs like 8 months ago. they were good till about 6 months ago when the driver side fog blew even though i had used gloves during installation. no problem, i decide to give Luminics ultraviolet a try as i liked purple fogs. so i buy those, and this time the passenger side fog blows after 2 months. argh !!!!!! i put the left over sylvania fog on then 2 weeks after the luminics blows on driver side. needless to say tonight i feel like i cant see the road, i pull over and sure enough... driver side headlight is toast and im running on passenger side fog + headlight. GREAT, time to use high beams. now im runnin OEMs on driver side and silverstar on passenger + lumincs purple fog light on passenger side. what a rainbow combo !

grand total in burnt bulbs: 1 luminics h3, 2 silverstar h3, 1 silverstar 9004 wish i had $$ for HID's

folks, lesson has be learned ! $100 for ricer bulbs down the drain. time to save for HID's. 7k up, 14k down

silverstars suck, yes, join the club.

well actually the light output is great, but 99% of people who've owned them have had them die in way less than 1 year. 9007 conversion is good enough for me... i can't justify spending hundreds of dollars on HIDs/projectors when 9007's work just fine... id rather spend hundreds on audio or something

When I had my Maxima I also bought some SilverStars and wasted the $40 as one burnt out within 6 months. VIP Maxima, your car is pure sex, you seem to have a decent amount of money invested in your car, why not spend the $200 for some HID's (4100K FTW).

I have phillips vision+ in both my Fogs and Headlights. They got better light output than most of those ricey bulbs and thats what i mainly care about and they definitely last more than a year. (I haven't had mine that long so i can't tell how long they will- but i predict similar to the OEMs)

Have you checked into Nokya bulbs??....my roommate has them in his '02 Range and they produce a good bit of light and they look great. He's done the Silverstars and Eurodesign and these are definately the best and cheapest. Inexpensive @ $20/pair. so $40 for lowbeams and fogs, plus shipping of course. Racinglab.com. Good luck with your problem of burnt out bulbs.

Just go HID. I know your focus is more on looks than output, but I think 7k in the headlights and 14k is overkill for looks. Go with like 6k and 10k, you'll be happier with the slight compromise. I use 4300k in my projectors which is basically pure white, but even on start up and at certain angles it is very blue. So I think you'd be happier with slightly lower than 7k/14k. I've never even heard of 14k, come to think of it...

You should go with some PIAA bulbs, they are worth the money, I have Extreme Whites, in my headlights and fog lights for over a year and no problems at all.

If were going yellow fogs, yellow capsules FTW. if your bulb blows its still like $5 to replace it.

i went thru the same thing with my fogs. tried everything from Silverstars to PIAA. 3-4 months, the shyte just stops working. in all i probably spent enough for an HID kit. now that i've done the conversion i can't beleive what the hell i waited for.

A/F lightbulbs are terrible in output, next to HID's stock gives the best.

Ya, aftermarket bulbs suck in reliability. My passenger side fog fake-MTEC bulb blew after 6 months, and a new Nokya bulb blew in 2 weeks!!??

They should make a "hyper white" capsule similar to the yellow lexus capsules...

Wow, that really is a good idea

I feel your pain man. I could never see spending $200+ on some headlights but after all the crap I went through with melting sockets ans bulbs blowing out I made up my mind to get them.

I have had good luck with Silverstars in my truck...over 2 years now, with good visibility. I would do HID's on a car I drove at night at high speeds however...lots of deer/elk/cattle in my area....good luck.
