S-techs on 5th gen

Ok i am really interested in getting a suspension setup put on my maxima since that is prolly one of the best things you could do. i want S-techs. Now the question is can i put them on tockico HPs (cheaper than the illuminas). I would be thankful if anyone has any suggestions for me and opinions, thanks in advance. I am tight on money!!

Any strut fitted for a 2001 Nissan Maxima will fit.

You forgot to mention that it has a greater shot of blowing the struts the closer to stock they are.

Dude, look up the polls on springs too. Read what people have to say about S-techs before buying.

seriously, it's very hard to choose the spring/shock combo that you will actually be happy with...

yeah i was in that thread for the longest time, going through each page. Like its soo hard to decide, cuz one person got the progress which i like, the other got the h-techs and someone got H&R ......its like omg. Yeah so i kinda like the look of the s-tech, because it is really low. I do understand the consiquences too of getting it that low. But what other springs are there, and yeah i heard you can have progress springs on your stock struts for a pretty long time? is that true?

I have the s-techs on stock 17's right now. Just waiting to see how much it will change my ride once I put my 19's back on. I came off of Progress Springs a couple of weeks ago.

I'm on Illuminas also, and I have the option of adjusting the stiffness, but it might sacrifice my handling a little (3f/4r now)......maybe/maybe not. We'll just wait to see on that one. I really like the way the coilovers sit and this is as close as I can get to them.

Some people might not like the ride and consider it too harsh, but I like "Riding Tight", and knowing every tweak my car makes. I've done it for so long, and in my previous cars as well, I guess I'm just use to it.

You will be fine with the HPs, but for how long?... I do recommend that you save up or find a great deal on the Illuminas. They are worth it, and the ability to adjust them, is just a plus. You could weigh out the feasibility by thinking about how much it would cost for you to buy another set of HPs in case they do blow out. And how long it would be till they did. My Illuminas have held up very well.

Save a little and do it right.

I got the S-techs cause I wanted the front dropped more than my Progress could allow. It's got a pretty even stance, my Progress had an even flatter stance.

I wouldn't go any of a lower drop on stock struts with anything other than Eibachs, H&Rs, and Maxspeeds. My fiance has an AE with stock struts and Eibachs. They've been on for almost a year, and still ride well.

I had the S-techs for about a week before I said "to heck with this" and went back to my Progress Springs. I wished that my Progress dropped lower as well but the crappy ride w/ the S-techs wasnt worth it to me. IMO, if you want to drop that low (and I did too) save your money for D2s and enjoy that drop with FULL suspension travel and dampening options. Just my 2 cents from having had all 3.

I have the S-Techs and Illuminas for about 20K miles with no problems...a little rough ride once in a while but very solid.

Another thing to consider is if you have a body kit. I was going to go with the s-techs but everyone warned me about the body kit being an issue with how low the s-techs drop. I decided to go with the Tokico Illuminas & H-Tech springs instead. Smoother ride, but it's enough to get what you need out of them.

That combo should fit properly, if its fitted to the right year Max. Like others have said, check the polls to get an idea of what ride/handling combo you will end up with....good luck!

thanks guys.......i just ordered my illuminas couple of days ago, now gonna order springs......prolly progress or s-techs. I'm leaning towards progress cuz i dont want it tooo low even tho i like low cars. But dont want to risk it being too low. and yeah my car is stock, no body kit or rims. 17' stock wheels.

nope, you'd need to upgrade your shocks/struts.. stech is one of the lowest springs out there.

I put the illuminas on with my progress springs. I love the handling, however the ride does get to me everyonce in awhile. But I think it is a good compromise.

If so i'll be selling a set of stechs. I seriously cant just throw the springs on my car as is?

Make sure you always look at the group deals forum. I bought my struts from there for $475. There is always something good for sale in there, or you could look for some used ones. Look through all the different forums here, there is a lot to offer.
