"please service engine soon"

got the "please service engine soon" light on my maxima (2004 SE). is this something i should take seriously? and take it to the shop right away? or can i just wait till i have time to do it?

any idea how much this will cost me? or does it depend on what they find under the hood?

sorry i am kind of lost when it comes to car repair

go to autozone and ask them to pull the code for you. they should know what you're talking about if you tell them you have a SES light on. once you get the code(s), come ask the board.

Nissan must have decided that if your car is going to tell you that you're about to drop a lot of money to fix it or waste a day at the service center that it might as well tell you nicely.

How many miles do you have on the car? Did you just get gas before the light went on? Did you check to see if your hoses are attached?

Check out the stickies in the 6th gen forum.

It's a 6th gen. You probably still have a warranty. If you have less than 60k miles, take it to the dealership and they'll fix it for free.
