Whats the best way to paint calipers?
#1
I've heard the Folia-tec paint is really good. I've painted them white once already, but they got dirty so quickly. If there was a way to keep them staying shiny white, I would, but I thinking about using red folia tec laquer.
Thanks....
BTW, my car is starfire blue, and I have white Konig Rated R rims (They say Rated R on one spoke. The R is red).

I just used some High Temperature paint for my calipers and it seemed to work fine. Every once in a while I will clean off the brake dust. I sprayed about 5 coats of paint and then sprayed 3 coats of high temperature clear coat on top.

make sure the caliper is totally clean before starting. a can of brake parts cleaner works good, but you should follow up by brushing it with soap and water, then rubbing alcohol.
if you spray a later of primer, the high temp paint will stick better (since it's thin & runny until it dries). don't buy the Folia Tec stuff.. over-priced. you can get a can of high temp paint (500deg) for $4-5 at any auto parts store.
4-6 layers of paint will be needed.. you could also use a heat gun or hair dryer in between layers to make it dry quicker.
just clean the calipers often the next few weeks to prevent the brake dust from embedding in the paint while it cures.

I used engine block paint. It isnt as bright and glossy as some brakes I have seen. But it went on just fine and has not come off or faded yet. I sprayed brake cleaner on, and then just painted it.
Where do you get brake caliper paint?

did any of you take the calipers all the way off to do this? I did the front ones while they were on but I think if you take them off you could get the paint on there better, has anyone done this or ran into problems doing this? or see any potential problems occuring from this process? Thanks in advance

I'm doing rotors, pads, speedbleeders, and SS lines, at the same time that I'm painting my calipers, so I think I am going to remove them completely to paint them. That way, I dont have to mask the car off.

by the way, I didnt have to mask anything. I sprayed the paint into a cup, and applied it with a brush. It took about three hours, but no muss no fuss. Oh, and I did on my MR2, not my Maxima.
