So who else has people in their car that dont understand the climate control concept?

So i have remote start, but i dont use it EVERY time i get into the car. so walkin to the car from a dinner or a bar or something, we get in and i hit AUTO, and without fail, every SINGLE time, my boy cranks the dial to 90 and *****es about how its cold.

ITS NOT GOING TO GET HOT ANY FASTER THAT WAY!!

he doesnt understand. he thinks that the higher the number, the faster the car will heat up. just the other day, i hit auto and we were in the car for 2 minutes, and he complained that cold air was coming out of the top vents. i pointed out that the heat was coming out of the floor, and pointed at the display of the little man with the arrow pointing at his feet and the little defroster icon. again he held his hand up to the top vent and said there is cold air coming out (there wasnt). i said, the car is cold! cold air is just floating around, and probably some is bouncing off the windshield, give it 5 minutes and itll be hot.

given, the auto doesnt always do things as efficient as possible, but its still better than than 90* with the fan up all the way, thats rediculous. anyway, /rant, i just get sick of explaining this EVERY time we are in the car.

My Fiance does the same thing

She also yells at me to turn on her heated seat (eventhough she can easily do it herself) and then whines ten minutes later that her a** is to hot...

My Mom and Dad cannot grasp this concept at all. And it's not like it's new to them. We've had cars with climate control since like '99.

if i turn mine on right away nothing happens until the car warms up a bit then it blows warm air not cold. but the heat comes on much faster than my oldsmobile.

i leave it on auto. it stays off until the car warms up. then it increases speeds as needed. 75* is good usually.

Maybe YOU don't understand DUAL Climate control? let him set it to 90. If it's still AUTO, it won't let air out until hot enough anyway.

With your son it seems more like "Dad can't be Always right" let him find out.
I do understand where you're coming from how most don't understand the car must warm first, but try a different approach maybe?
---

"My Fiance...." sounds like she has some spoiled issues
----

Personally, I can't figure why everyone seems scared to touch controls i my car. I even point out, "you can change your Temp, and Seat Heat".

i dont have dual climate control, one temp for the whole car, i have to suffer

but what you said is exactly my point, turning it up to 90 doesnt do anything, so leaving it at 70 will allow the car to heat up and release heat in the same way as turning it to 90. the cars goin to warm up at the same pace, and its going to start releasing heat in the same way, all turning it up to 90 does is make him have to turn it down 15 minutes later when it gets stupid hot in the car.

so dual climate control, FTW!

Don't know how old he is but maybe if you gave him a tour under the hood and explained the radiator and heating system he might understand the process a little better

sorry, "my boy" meant "my friend, my pal, my buddy", like "one of the boys"

i dont have a son, hahaha

maybe that will clear things up, that a 24 year old male is doing this, not an 8 year old kid

Ahhhhh OK. You can still give him a tour under the hood and maybe he'll understand how the heater works.

yeah i brought that up once before. i guess the theory behind it makes sense, heat rises and eventually it will fill up the cabin...but thats the key word, EVENTUALLY. but right NOW, my face and arms are still cold, and all the warm air is coming out at my feet. i know its as simple as pressing mode twice to have it come out the top, but it seems like if im on a 45 minute trip, 40 of those minutes are coming out the floor.

i guess you please more people with it slowly coming out the floor then shooting heat out at eye level...i can understand both sides.

if you put it on auto, the fan doesnt turn on right away. and if you do crank it up, its going to be cold air anyways.
usually in cold weather my feet gets colder than rest of my body, so i like it when the hot air is blowing to my feet. i just set it between 73-76. and just let the car do its work. i like it, just like my auto headlights.
oh and i dont let my friends touch anything on the car.

Last time my former co-worker came to town, she kept turning the climate control dial to change the radio station. First of all, my car = my tunes. Nothing pisses me off more than passengers reaching over to change the radio (or the temp for that matter). Come on people, ask first! Second, the radio is right up top with standard buttons and dials labeled in English. After the fifth time, you'd think she'd figure that out.

I think most people just dont understand the auto concept. I have noticed that almost every car I get in at work, The climate control is not on auto and its turned either all the way up and each vent is on or its set to all the way cold and full blast. Or the system is just off all together. I push it on auto each time I get in, and its already set to something else when I get back in. The shuttle driver tells me he doesnt want the car telling him what to do. I think set it to 72 and its just perfect, summer and winter.

Awesome thread. My wife doesn't get it either. She always raises the temp and manually sets the fan to high, even though it's cold air coming out.

My wives GLE has climate control and in the winter it is turned up to max, and in the summer it is turned all the way down until she gets hot/cold, then she turns it off. What a waste of climate control, I wish I had it in my car.

Another thing I don't understand. People who leave it on auto during dry cold days. People dont' seem to grasp the concept of auto = compressor on, econ = compressor off.

exactly!

this to me makes no sense. pick a temperature you like best, press the button, turn the ****, never touch it again. Its a hundred times easier than waiting til you get hot, then turning it off, then you get a lil cold again, so you turn it on, over and over. Hell, pretty much all winter its at 70 for me, i dont even think about it most times...

You dont go to the thermostat in your home, crank it up, then 2 hours later, turn it down, then go back again later...maybe I should use that as an explanation..."Okay, the car is like the house, set it to a comfortable temperature, and dont touch it again, just like home."

they just cant adapt to technology i guess. really the auto temp is so much easier than manual, esp when you have digital temp, so you know what temp you want.

I like the Auto function. But I hate that it cranks the fan up to max. I usually let mine warm/cool with the fan on at a bearable level till it gets close. Then hit Auto and forget it.

Never have mine on auto...I always set it manually and its always on the same temp/setting I left it at. I get hot/cold easily so I'm constantly changing it and I don't like the car doing whatever it wants. I don't know what temp I want it at eventually, I know what I want it to be now!

I do remember reading that when your car is cold, only have the fan on at half speed. The heater won't warm up as fast if the fan is on full blast blowing cold air over the coils.

I can't explain why but whenever I leave the accessories on and turn off the car, the next day its harder to start (not by much though). I usually turn off all my accessories, e.g. heat and reset them back to default then turn off my car. I'm just **** about this.

Thats exactly what my friend from work does. In both of his cars, he always will turn off both the climate control and radio. He has to everytime. Very obsessive compulsive...
