Just raced a friend's ford SHO (model just before the latest one with the eliptical rear window)..his car is a V8, auto, with intake, exhaust, newly installed underdrive pulley, platinum plugs...?)...from standstill, he flew of the line on the third horn, whilst I reacted right after....about 1/2 car length behind him.. (my front bumper was at his rear)!

right around 50-80 mph, my auto suddenly gained 1 car length as if his car was standstill! (my rear bumper was at his front bumper if not slightly more)

did 2 runs...similar results...pretty happy but am NOT calling this a "walked" kill!

Very nice. I subscribe to a V8SHO list. Some of the more heavily modded SHO's run high 14's. Not bad for an auto and small V8.

if the modded V8 SHO's run high 14's, what do the 6 cylinder ones run? i know that the 3.0 is quick as hell, but does anyone know the 1/4 times stock? the older ones like early 90's have about 220 hp which isnt bad... i heard that yamaha sent them an engine and they sent it back to be tuned down because they didnt want it beating the mustang or it might have been the saleen that they didnt want it to beat lol... its a nice car because of its power, but under the dress up it still has the ugly taurus body, so the styling still isnt that great

Yep they were originally to have 300hp, a change in cams and a restrictive intake and exhaust took it down to 220. I had a '90 SHO modded and would beat up stock 5.0s all day, walked a turbo civic, and tied a chipped 325i to 135mph. My old SHO would inhale my max chew it up and spit it out.

I had a '94 style SHO (When they still came with the Yamaha) in a manual setup and it was definitely quick. Quicker than my 2000 Max SE, both in stock form? Not sure. The SHO was touted with 220HP. . . I would say it would run a mid to low 15 1/4 mile.

Now, if you want to talk about my '94 Thunderbird SC with a manual in stock form, forget it! Would eat up both the SHO and Max and definitely spit them out! Thunderbird is more in the high 14 range with only exhaust done so far.

Yeh, not very impressed with the V8 TBird (Just don't let any of my TBird friends hear it!) My SC is actually just a little V6, but it's got a nice little blower from the factory that puts out a nice little 15psi. . .

Im glad you are so sold on the T-bird SC's performance, but let me be the first to tell you it wont be eating up any SHO's. Not the pre-96 5-speed's anyway. I owned 2 SHO's before my GTP and I ran against more than 1 SC, it was always a good race and I won most of them. I have also had the opportunity to see a few run at the strip and the stockers, and even some of the modded ones, were always low-15's. Most SHO 5-speed's, properly driven, will get a low-15. Hell, what does that SC of yours weigh? 3900 pounds? If anybody doesn't believe me and you have a little time on your hands, go over to www.sccoa.com and poke around and see what these guys run. I know they can be made fast, like any car can, but stock they are just to heavy to get any decent times from them. Of course, low-15's isn't exactly slow. I think you need to take the SC to the strip and see for yourself, you will be in for a disappointment if you're thinking you're going to be in the 14's with just an exhaust.

Later,
Ok, ok, so should I just POST my timeslips? Sorry, you'll have to wait until I get home to do that. I'd also recommend EVERYONE go to the www.sccoa.com, and especially look at the fastest cars. While mine is currently #51 in the list, you'll see a time of 14.978@93mph - to get on the list, a timeslip must be submitted. And this is time with exhaust only.

Now, as for the SHO vs SC, let's discuss further. I will be the first to say, stock vs stock, YES, from 1989 to 1993, the SHO will most likely beat the SC. Beginning in 1994 and continuing in 1995, the tables turned - the SC got a major bump in power, and the SHO continued on it's downward spiral, as it had over the past few years. Let's not even bother with the '96 and up SHO as very few were ever interested. And please, let's not forget I still own a 94 5-speed SC, and just recently let go of my '94 5-speed SHO, and running them side-by-side, as well as at the track, no contest - SC walked away from the SHO every time.

Alright, I'm wrapping up. I realize this is a Max forum, but I only put my $.02 in originally as a side bar. Didn't mean it to turn into this - my apologies! Should you have any further SC questions, be sure to ask me - I also happen to be the president of the Mid-Atlantic Chapter for the Super Coupe Club of America (SCCoA.) Anything else?

OK, nice time run with your SC. I see you are very into them and Im not going to try and one-up your knowledge of them. The way you originally posted it, it seemed you were merely guessing at what your SC could do.

But it seems you may not be as well informed about SHO's. Or maybe you know more about them than I do.....I was into them pretty hard for 4 years. Im curious as to what you think changed between the 93's, and the 94/5's? Nothing. Same car, same weight, same power, same everything. No decline.

My original problem with your post was you saying that your SC could eat up and spit out an SHO, like it could destroy it or something. But that's very far from the truth as it's a close match no matter what year cars you are talking about (only 5-speed SHO's.....not the V8 crap).

Maxima content......the Max and the SHO are so similar it's not even funny.
