HLSD or Open Diff? Pics inside...

I can't tell from the pic... I looked up the VIN code in FAST, but couldn't get a definate answer. Can any of you guys tell from look at these pics? Maybe some "trick" piece that would differentiate the two? One of my customers purchased this swap off of Ebay, without asking if it was HLSD or not..

post VIN.

or call you local dealer and ask them to stick the vin into their computers and see what it comes up with.

I wish I had the trans here, so I could look at it up close. Unfortunately, these are the only pics that I have for now..

it's a non-LSD according to FAST.

the LSD part code for the diff is 38411Z.. (38411-96E01)
FAST shows a 38421Y part code for your VIN. (38421-97E00)

I have FAST... how did you determine the part number using the VIN code?

Which brings me to the next question... can the HLSD bellhousing side of the trans case bolt up to the non-lsd trans?.. If you were to put the helical diff in the trans?

punch in the VIN on the car into FAST and then get the part number for the diff that pops up when you search by description (or by pics)..

then clear out all the data and do it again just using the chassis code... when you get to the diff, it'll pop up with a box asking if you're looking for auto/manual/LSD/no LSD and production date stuff.

the LSD one is noted in the part description, and yours is not.

as for if the bellhousings fit, look it up in FAST yet again. if the part numbers are same for the LSD and non LSD bellhousings, then you're good.

Thanks Matt... I'm still trying to learn how to navigate around the FAST system.. It looks as thought the part numbers are the same for the bellhousings.. Also, the axles are the same..which means that the HLSD should fit in.. Just swap the ring gear over, and bearings.. then reshim accordingly. I'll let you guys know how it goes.. Thanks again for the help.

I usually just even swap the differentials when they're the same ratios. Otherwise I just swap the ring gear if the ratios are different.

This one is actually going into a B15.. which will be featured in SCC Mag this summer, in the Hybrid How-To section.

The one that's going on the 9500rpm SR20VE turbo project is coming off of a QR25DE, with a custom adaptor/flywheel, etc..
