My 1st Post, Convince Me To Get A Maxima
#2
Well if you are getting a 2002 you not only can get a manual but a 6speed manual at 260hps.....might be changing that to...Im looking for a first car... Just kidding man...if you do have an M3 congrats...but the Maxima would be a good second car behind that...especially the 2002 if not any other gen would be good...don't know if you are considering modding but if you are.....you would have a "grocery getter" easily in the 14's and some 13's...good luck

Why wait for the '03? If anything, it will be slower than the '02 and there is a chance it might not even come with the manual tranny. It will probably become a bigger car, more like the Q. I would go with the '02. It will be the fastest max ever. But if a bigger sized car is what your looking for, than maybe the '03 is what you need.

Depends on what you want
- Look, I'm going to be realistic here. The Maxima is a wonderful car. It has a very smooth, responsive V-6 that makes glorious sounds. It is also roomy, quiet, and has a subdued style to it.
- But honestly, it all boils down to what you need. It is a FRONT WHEEL DRIVE CAR. If you are (4 door) performance minded, go buy a Bimmer. Other factors inhibiting performance are: a tall suspension, heavy weight (3300lbs), solid rear axle (4th and 5th gen cars), and the large size.
- Also, the city mileage is less than what I would like (even with a stick), and the highway mileage is only average.
- It is a great practical car that can go very fast in a straight line compared to its other family sedan competitors. One of the great features is that you can have a well-built Japanese car with a stick-shift! (God Bless Nissan for that.) There are a growing number of aftermarket go-fast goodies coming out, but since the market is small, the price is typically high.
- The Maxima is wonderful for some reasons and horrible for others.
- Personally, I intend to keep my Max as a street car and buy a track car... I really need to find a cheaper hobby.

Oh brother, I knew if I typed that someone would shoot me down. OK, those aren't the FACTS and that's why I typed "might". But rumors have it that it will be what I said. But hey, we'll have to wait and see. My opinion, go with the '02.

Ok, what we need to know is what are you looking for in a family sedan? Are you looking for performance? Handling? or Luxury? The new max will be a FWD car, 260hp. You probably looking at a mid 14 sec car. There is a thread at the top of this forum that explains the new features on the 2002 such as nav system and HID's. If you can wait a fe more months you will be able to test drive a '02. Later
