Tonight on my way home on the Memphis Autobahn, my speedo needle suddenly dropped from an indicated [highway speed} to zero. My speed remained constant, and all other gauges seemed to be fine.

All the way home, the needle didn't so much as quiver, and neither the main odometer nor the trip odometer advanced a bit. The dial remained backlighted all the while.

Is this total failure, a blown fuse, a bad connection...? Is this fixable, or am I going to need a new speedometer?

Please advise. Thanks as always.

RE:Meter Failure

It sounds too me that there is a good chance you blew a fuse check your interior fuse panel where your left knee is and pull out your meeter fues and make sure that it is fully funtional and if not replace it and your problem is fixed.I used to fool around with that fuse to stop putting miles on my car and it kind of worked until my battery died after 15 minutes or so of driving every day so I stop after the first few days,I think without that fuse in your car your altanator stops charging your battery.Good luck and write back on the forum if it worked.

Not sure if the newer cars use a cable, but check that. If thats the case and they do have one, it 1. became disconnected, or 2. it broke. If its cableless, then I'm clueless heh heh

I can't find a blown fuse anywhere on the car. I checked with a local parts store, and they thought it was the cable, too. Thanks for the help, y'all.

on 99's with digital odo there is no cable, just a sensor on transmission with wires.
