So why did Nissan make American Maximas?

I was wondering why Nissan spent more $$$ to develop Maximas for North America, why not just keep the design the same as the rest of the world? I mean, since we do get the A32 I30, A33 I30/35 in Infiniti form, why not just keep them as original Nissan?

More bank.

They can market their product to a broader range of buyer groups.

It's very likely the same reason that GM has like 30 sub brands.

They would still need something to market for their infiniti brand name.

Its just a different shell with the same chassis, engine, etc. Its not all that much money to develop. From a marketing standpoint you don't want to disrupt your infiniti brand name with a stripped out I30/35 (GXE maxima). Hence you can offer more luxury options and amenities in your infiniti brand name

dead-on. It's why we have started to build again in the USA. Cheaper to assemble a Sharp microwave in the USA than China or Korea. Really spells trouble for us as Americans.
