Aftermarket T-belt Tensioner

Sounds like my t-belt tensioner is going out on my '87 VG30E eng. w/65K miles . Although I can't be sure until I get it apart, there is a whine near the tensioner with all the accessory belts removed. Unfortunately, the dealership didn't replace it with the t-belt job a couple of years ago. All of the parts stores locally carry Dayco tensioner (and belt). Has anyone tried Dayco? I'd buy OEM, but I want to be able to buy the part in advance and return it locally in case it turns out to be something else.

TIA.

Dayco is decent stuff. i've used their timing belt kits in the past, but would prefer to use Gates or OEM just for a "I know it's good" factor.

So your 20 year old Maxima only has 65,000 miles on it? Awesome!

I've found the Dayco accessory belts to be pretty durable. I see RockAuto has a Gates belt w/ OEM number and an OEM tensioner also - their parts are returnable except for delivery. Thanks for the input on Dayco

Yep only 65K. It used to be my father's car, so I know the history too. It's in great shape save for a couple of dings.
