axle question, need answer ASAP

Due to a friend's stupidity i now have an axle without the locking nut on. you know, the nut that locks it to the hub.

the "everything is closed and i am screwed on sunday" question is

can i drive (slowly..) the car with the axle basically floating from side to side or will that ruin the hub?

i already need a new CV + nut (threads are gone) but i don't want to destroy the hub since that will really suck.

i already moved it 10 feet btw so yes, it is proper, just not locked in.

I know I already answered this in OT, but just to be clear to everyone else who stumbles upon this thread. The answer is NO. You can't drive your car with a missing axle nut. The wheel bearing will come apart and you'll get to see your front tire driving off, down the road by itself. This action is not safe.
