What does running lean mean?
Why does a car run lean?
Why does a car run rich?
Is it good to run rich?
Is it good to run lean?
If it is not good to run rich, then how can you make it not?
If it is not good to run lean, then how can you make it not?

Thanx (Another one of my just curious questions)

lean=too little fuel for the amount of air.

rich= (opposite) too much fuel.

The most power is made just on the edge before being lean.

It is not really good to be too rich or too lean. However,
It is much safer to be too rich and too lean. Too lean runs a serious risk of blowing the engine. Too rich, can foul your plugs or ruin you cat...but not too big a deal.

while running richer is safer then leaner. Besides ruining the cat and fouling the plugs, in the long run, fuel on the cylinder wall and rings prevents the oil from lubricating the rings.
