NEW BEST 1/4 time >>
Yes, I have done it again... this time I have only improved a little, but I am sure that I can get a 14.7 with my current setup.
What I did tonight:
R/T .821
60' 2.255
330 6.238
1/8 9.563
MPH 74.1
1000 12.224
1/4 14.844
MPH 92.52
I now have my BrianV style intake on and this is the factor that will allow me to get a 14.7 with only an intake + catback. My best run did NOT have my best 60' or MPH so I know I can do a little better still.
My average for the night was about 14.9

one more note: my best 60' of the night was a 2.191
an interesting story...
Mechanic was there with his Automagic and just for fun I ran against him with 2 of his friends in my car and still won...

Temp = 65
Rel. Humidity = 70
Don't know the sea level, but it's western NY.
bmxsteve: in time :-)
BriGuy: I have quite a few runs under my belt now and I think my skill level allows me to run a little better than most people do.
I'm still in shock about the 2.191 60' (I can't remember how I launched that run, DOH!)
You and Eric J. seem to do very good runs at that track must be nice sea level and extra sticky.. I thought Etown was one of the best tracks in the US but that track you guys are at bring great times.. I will be damned if i don't feel like driving up there to see what the differences are with my times...

I haven't been to another track, but this one seems pretty stickey. The one time that I was there I kept launching higher and higher, and had no problems. I think I got up to 3,500 RPM (Dropping the clutch) and I still stuck!
Great runs. You really need a Y-pipe to get that trap speed up and drop some more et. I typically hit 94-95mph in cooler weather (70s and below). Knocking off another .05 in et is so frustrating. I've run 8 14.73-14.75s. I just can't get to the 14.6s. You can easily hit 14.7s if you get some drag radials.
What is your track setup? What do you remove?
I don't know what it is, but the quickest cars in all of the forums I visit (clubgp.com, z28camaro.com, ls1.com, Corral, vwvortexx.com, maxima.org, newcelica.org) tend to almost always reside in the northeast (NY, Canada, Maryland, NJ). There's something about the air there. I think it's the baropressure and low elevation.
Conditions for Rochchester last night were 30.1+ baro pressure and lower 60s. The dew point was rather high meaning the humidity was in the upper 60% range. According to the world atlas, Rochester is at 490' above msl. Lake Ontario is about 240' above msl. Those conditions seem pretty good.
Keep on working at it.

My times are right on par with other guys (including yourself) with the same mods, and maybe Aaron is just a better driver, or has a faster car. I don't know that the track is making a huge difference. Yeah, we've had cooler weather in WNY, but that's just a perk of the area.
Aaron: Have you run at another track since running in Rochester?
what do you think i am basing it on
the day i ran 14.7 ..
Aaron was running 15.2 - 15.5 all day with 2.2 60fts.. so if he had a 2.1 60ft .. thats a 15.0 run

Outside of launching, one of, if not the key to racing out cars is clean shifts...maybe he's gotten better?
same trap speed

Makes sense. However, it is possiable that Aaron got better between now and then. If I recall, that was one of his first times out...since then I know of 3 times that he's gone to the track.

Eric i am not trying to put you guys down.. or saying you guys are not excellent drivers.. but the track has a lot to do with it..
I bet you any money if Dave B. was at that track in Rochester he would pull 14.4 w/ 2.1 60fts..
don't think i am flaming you guys.. just making an observation

I didn't realize that Aaron was getting the same trap speeds, for some reason I thought he was 1 or 2 mph faster.

As for the track...I guess I don't get it. I can see where it will help 60' times based on how slick it is, and times based on the weather and elevation. What is the elevation at E-town? I just assumed that it was close to here.
But if Aaron's getting similar 60' times and ET's close to a half second better...is it just the weather/elevation making the difference?
well..
see.. Aaron dropped .3 - .4 secs by track change.. so i would think that would be a big factor
Etown i think is 1500 - 2000 ft above sea level
Elevation plays a big factor.. and like i said i am not doubting you guys.. but i am just looking at Aaron running one time this week and incredible the next week.. just by track change
anyway.. you guys are good drives and they are great runs

: There's definately no correction factor for that track. This only counts to true sanctioned racing, but the NHRA doesn't allow for correction of altitude unless you are 1100' above msl. However their program will correct for ANY altitude. Whether they accept it or not is another thing.
Lucky me, I'm stuck at 1025'. What do I do
I've corrected my slip for altitude (just for fun) and my et comes out to a 14.52@95mph. It seems every 1000' is about .15-.20 for 12-15 second cars.Dave

Other things you have to consider is humidity. Humidity kills performance far more than heat because there is more H20 in the air which takes place of the O2. Not good.
Dave
wow! lots happened while I was in class..
I looked through some timeslips and my runs last night were about 1-2 mph faster on average.
want to know what the real factor is?
At Etown I got 4 runs (4 chances on one hot day)...
At NYIRP I get about 15 runs per night (60 degree weather)
my experience is building up now and I believe that any of the etown people who were given so many more runs per day would improve their times also.
if you guys want to drive up here then bring it! otherwise, see ya at maxus
