I think you meant "conquered"

I was under the impression that y-pipes had a fairly low power improvement on the VQ35, compared with the VQ30 (hence why not many 3.5's go the y-pipe route). Discuss.

I thought so as well. Correct me if I'm wrong but I thought the pre-cats that were normally in the 4th gen y-pipes were in the headers for the 6th gens. So New Headers for the 6th gen would give the gains that a y-pipe would for a 4th gen.

But the precats are still in the headers in the 6th gen.... So what did it eliminate? In the 4th gen it eliminated the precats. In the 6th gen what did it do?

here is a pic off the link. i put a ypipe on my 02 and its worth 5-7 HP. although looking at the pic, you are losing the main cat as well, so maybe its worth a few more ponies..

That's not the main cat. That's a precat. You lose one, and one stays.

i thought the precats were in the manifold? so the 6th gen has 4 cats? 1 in each manifold, that precat, and the main cat after that?

imho you should have posted this in the 6th gen forum as to not get a bunch of conjecture from people that evidentily don't know what they're talking about

Upon further research it seems you were right to begin with. My bad.

it gets rid that bottle neck right before the precat (where the stock hanger is located).

there's another big crimp in the exhaust further down the line.
