Guys with Apexi filters

Looking at buying an intake from Berk. Everything I've read says that the Apexi flows a little more air than the K&N plus you don't have to worry about oil on the MAF.

I looked at Apexi's website and searched on here and have yet to see a way to clean the filter. Apexi's site says it must be replaced when dirty. Seems crazy to spend $75 for a replacement filter. Are you guys cleaning them or replacing them?????

Maybe I'll just get the Berk intake with the K&N ($60 cheaper)and replace it with one of the new AEM dryFlow filters. AEM says they can be cleaned and don't require re-oiling.

for $75

My thoughts. If they are not cleanable, it's not worth it.

actually it is worth it. there is no other filter out there that beats the performance and the safety of your engine except for the apexi filter.

Performance
Not cleanable

Hard for me to understand how this filter cost twice as much as the K&N, yet has to be replaced once it gets dirty. Depending on where you live, your filter can consume a lot of dust a debris in a very short amount of time and your basically throwing $75 out the window.

Guess there are several factors when looking to buy those filters. I've always ran K&N cone filters with a Venturi plenum (Stillen) and loved them even though the Apexi was proven to perform better.

With my '02 SE I have modified my oem intake ducting to create a stock box cold air intake and mid-pipe and will probably stick with that for now.

I got the AEM with my Berk. It was cheaper than with the Apexi, and I doubt I'll feel any difference between the two filter elements. So...I opted for the cheaper route. My only gripe about the AEM is the color. It should be some other color besides gray...for the ease of dirt buildup detection.

Did Berk sell it to you as a kit? Or were you able to buy the intake without filter and get the AEM seperate?

Well, to cut back on spammers, you have to have at least 15 posts in order to start a thread. As for the search, you have to be a donating member.

I'll stick with the AEM then. I am making my short intake which isn't hard. Trying a couple things out.

I'd say first try tha Apexi filter and see if you like it, then go buy all the other crap that comes in at a distant second to it's performance

why can't you clean the apexi filters? Seems like there'd be some way to go about doing it safely..just so you can at least get some more miles out of it

Wrong. It takes years for the foam to get brittle enough to break.

Either way it lasts longer than an Apexi filter.

You'll need a 3 inch filter for the PR intake

But tests of the HKS foam filter (most $$$ on market) showed that it has horrible filtering ability. Which IMO is a big downside.

If you use the Apex with the Berk set-up, do you need some type of adapter? I'm thinking of replacing the K&N, but noticed that the Apex has a different shape on the end.

Does anyone have the instructions for the Berk Intake? I purchased one used, and have it installed and everything, but just possibly have used the wrong hardware. If there is a sheet with the exact hardware that is supposed to come with it and you could post it up, it would be much appreciated. About the filter, I think they last for a good while, and even though you can get a K&N for a lifetime, I'd rather have the dry filter with better flow/filtering than another dead MAF.
