New car

As most of you kno i totaled my 03 6speed TE/SE. Well I got a new car last week. Its an 01 BMW 540i in a 6speed manual transmission i picked it up for 24k it has 72k miles on it. It was kind of a conpulsive buy as i saw it then the next day i bought it. I miss the maxima alot. So yea...here are some pics. A couple are from a local bmw meet that i went to. I just wanted to come here and say thanks to all the help you guys gave me, i learned alot. Thanks guys.

beautiful car! How does the power feel, compared to the max? is it quick or a bit of a boat?

Its definatly a different car. The around corners and such was good for what i did to it. But this car being stock, feels really solid. If im going up the canyon the car has very little body lean.

I loved my friend's 540 6sp. But the clutch is waaay too smooth. It doesn't bite like a 4th gen Max. Congrats!

Congrats, that's a sweet car. That is gonna be some ridiculous driving pleasure! My cousin is shopping for a used M5, but the price is still really steep and he refuses to pay more than 40 for a car (his discipline puts some of us to shame...), and will not step down from an M (has the E36 M3)...

I've never owned an 8 cyl. BMW but know a couple who did and claimed they "couldn't afford" to keep them. I thought that was strange so I asked for specifics--a guy in the office said he got the water pump replaced in his 540, which was not cheap. Then, less than 12 mos. later the fan broke off and destroyed the radiator and hood--the cost was so high for the needed repair he got rid of it and now get this, went to a Grand Cherokee (what a diff).

Find a reputable shop to get your repairs done at as the dealership is way too much even if you're a radiologist or law partner! hehe Don't wait, ask around start giving a shop the little jobs so if you ever need them they'll be familiar with your car. Sweet ride!

The way I look at is if you like cars, BMW should be an itch that you will at some point in your life scratch. All I can say is it's a very satisfying car to own and drive. It does really does ding the pocketbook, but hey, we only live once.....

Nice car, I would buy it too but I would also be worried about repair costs.

Not really worried about repairs. There are 3 really good bmw/euro shops here in the valley. Anything i can't handle ill take it to them. $100's off what the stealership would charge

That was on my short list of cars that were "family cars with a fun side".

The gas mileage, and parts cost were what turned me away, eventually. That, and I found my 2K2 with 67K miles for a good price.

Welcome to the 540i club! You will love every bit of this car. I know I do! It's a whole new world compared to the Maximas! Modding is expensive for these cars though. My main suggestions for the best quality mods would be Dinan. Dinan's parts are also warrantied with the Dealer. So it won't void your factory warranty. Dinan is Top Notch! Just pricey.

Also for interior you have to go with AC Schnitzer!

Figured you would appreciate this video. Amazing sounding '99 540i 6-Speed, with just a Dinan Exhaust!

Meh, Dinan is actually kind of overpriced and overrated. There are better mods out there for less money. They do retain the warrantee, but that's about all they have going for them. IMO, most BMW people like Dinan because it carries the same image that BMW does.

But yeah, that E39 sounds pretty sweet, although I dunno if I'd want it as a DD...
