that crazy lizard hooked me up!
My homeowners went up 25% for no reason at all (never had a claim with insurance, EVER), and that broke the camel's back so-to-speak. I was getting a lame $40 discount for having auto/home with the same lame-A** co......
Decided to get a quote from that co. with the talking gecko....WTF they are saving me $594/yr.???? I thought those commercials were smoke and mirrors....when I gave them the Maxima VIN#, the dude said sorry, it's going to be a little more (not sure what he saw by the vin#, maybe that I have a Maxima Si-R?). I was thinking, "here we go..." but it was only $16 more/6 mo. than the original quote. Dang for once an insurance co. gave me good news!

Geico is the best. I'm only paying $210 every six months, $35 a month! I'm 23, have a clean driving record, and have liablility and minimums on everything except property damage which i bumped up to $50,000 coverage in case I hit a Mercedes or something. It rocks though! (Living in Utah might be a reason it is so cheap too.)
Geico was ridiculously expensive for me when I got a quote online, though I'm still in the "assigned risk" age group, I think. (currently 22) I'm guessing Geico is probably cheaper once you get out of the assigned risk age group. But then again the guy above me is only 23 and says that Geico is cheap. Go figure.
Progressive was cheapest for me, though my parents are paying it, so I can't complain.

Gieco prefer's aftermarket parts if your car's ever hit. I found this out the hard way, but they save you money because they dictate that the repair is done cheaply. After 7 years, they dropped me in a minute because I mentioned I didn't want a compact rental because I sometimes have to carry a printer or computer to an office. They considered that seldom trip a "business" use. And even though my work covers my insurance while I'm on the job, the gecko didn't care.
eSurance might be as cheap, but they use factory parts for their reapirs.
I'm with State Farm now, They gave me the best package for house and car ins.

back on topic: call a couple of local places for good rates. i did that and now literaly pay around 3k LESS per year than I was. It's now State Farm BTW.
One of the local agents badmouthed Geico. Seriously, that's not good business practice. He said he'd beat them and my homeowners and take care of the refunds. All sounded good, because I can save $70 on homeowners switching with someone else and no multi-policy discount. So this guy said he would save me $130 on top of the $594. Ok, let's be sensible, there's only so low the insurance can go, if someone said full coverage for $99/6 mo. I'd question it.
Guess what? In his quote, he raised my homeowners to a $1000 deductible, and he omitted uninsured and underinsured which Geico has. I hate that kind of manipulation to meet or beat.
We did have an extensive talk about BMW's though as he said he has a '97 540 stick. Sure, bonding a little is good salesmanship. But when he started to tell me about his new S4, I decided ok, we're not gonna overlook the above and it dawned on me this profession is making him wealthy (or outwardly so).

To continue this saga, I've gotten all my Geico stuff in the mail, and I have to return some forms...normal. No inspection on the Maxima since it's a 98, but of course inspection on the other car as it's a 2k6.
There are some local agents (out of the mess only 2, about 9 others were over) who can save me even more--so when all is said and done, for this BS I went through, I should be looking at around $870 yearly savings for homeowners and auto. What steams me is why can't we simply save that by being a loyal, claim-free customer? Isn't that what the tv commercials imply?
Shopping for insurance has become the same as buying a car. If you already have a low price, the agent manipulates things to lower the price. If not, you get the high price. Thank goodness for states like Massachusetts where all this BS is eliminated thanks to the Commonwealth.

I will never go Geico because for a while they were donating money for laser guns for police departments...and then after you would get one ticket they would cancel you....great company

So you would rather pay $594 more per year to be covered by a co. that doesn't arm the law with equipment that rightly puts speeders behind bars causing them to lose their insurance coverage?
It's so funny to hear someone bashing Geico. They wont cover me, so all the people who are saving lots of $$$ shouldn't be. In my shopping they were the friendliest, most helpful with rates that nobody else could touch. The insurance package that came in the mail was the most thorough and complete I've seen.
Long story short is I'm gonna go for the low price. Anybody wants to pay more and bash the co. that charges less for more coverage, that's their business.
