Paint Discussion:
Paint Discussion:
I’m doing a lot of reading about automotive painting. A few questions are starting to surface in my head. I remember a few other members are interested in painting to I figured I’d post this here and hopefully a nice informative discussion can arise.
So far I see that there are different types of paints, primers, and clear. Enamel Lacquer and Urethane. Out front bumpers for example are poly-urethane. Doesn’t this mean that the urethane primer/paint/clear should be used? Or the lacquer could be used also as long as flex agent is added to both to allow for flexibility.
I also know the paint is reduced down with a thinner/reducer. Different automotive company reduces it down by different amounts. Does anyone know the general amount the paint is reduced down by? Or even better Good ratio to mix the paint down?
I also noticed the sticker under the hood of my car that specifies this car has a hard clear coat.
Just found that so I guess I answered my own question there.
Additional Info:
I also learned that Enamel lacquer Paint is recommended to be used with a 1.4 tip size on a gun. Urethane 2.0 is recommended.

Both 2 part urethane primer and lacquer primer are both very popular. The 2 part urethane primer has a higher build, requires less coats, is more flexible, and has better adhesion properties. The acrylic lacquer primer is very popular because it dries very quickly, easiest to sand, and doesn't need to be mixed

Here's a good link for mixing ratios : http://www.sherwin-automotive.com/he...xing_ratio.cfm
