How do I know when to change fluids?...->
Hi folks,
I was wondering if there is a website out there that tells us fluid colors and its different stages, ie good or bad, worse, your car is gonna die, and so forth.
I know oil is brownish when new and turns to gunk and black when it's bad. Tranny is red when new... and so forth. I'm trying to check out all my fluids this weekend but I'm not sure what exactly to look for. I have time to do flushes this weekend and so would like to check all important fluids.
Furthermore, when switching from regular oil to synthetic, can I just do a simple oil change, or do I need to do some sort of flushing? TIA
Mike H.

I don't know anything about a color chart but it's usually about time and milage. Brake fluid will turn dark colored like your oil, if you can't see thur it change it. Transmission fluid is a milage issue, say around 40,000 miles. Radiator fluid is once a year but depends of the type of fluid was installed in the car from the factory. Switching to synthetic gives added protection and there is NO NEED to flush the regular oil out.
