VA Police
Fairfax police are ******. Just got caught on Jermantown Rd. in last night. Stopped me for the clear corners, tint, and exhaust. Got ticketed for only tint. Okay, I'll give them that (it's 35%) and the lights but c'mon, the GReddy, too? He said that any exhaust modifications in VA are illegal. Is that just convenient excuse or what? Geez, the GReddy is even legal in CA!! And it's after the cat, what gives? I've had 2 emissions tests done with it on and passed with flying colors. What a bunch of B.S. Lessons learned: don't drive late at night with a flashy car near the end of the month.

Was it Fairfax city or Fairfax county? How did he know you tint was too dark? Did he use a tint meter? County cops don't have them only VA State trooper carry those in their cars. Anyway, James...I saw a girl driving your car pulling on Fairfax county parkway a month ago.

It was near Oakton so I guess Fairfax County. The car was red. They used a tint meter. About only VA state troopers having them, I heard that, too. The officer's name is prefixed with 'PFC', wonder if that's 'Police of Fairfax County'? My friend thinks that maybe all this is stemming from the F&F movie. I don't know if I can do anything at this point. Is it illegal for county police to have tint meters? Well, needless to say, I changed all my clears back to orange. If cops are gonna stop me for stupid stuff like that, I might as well throw in the towel. The girl you saw driving my car, that could either be my wife or other girlfriend. j/k. More than likely my wife.

I believe VA tint law is 50% for front windows and 35% for the rest. This is what I did. I got 35% for the front and 20% for the rest. From far away, they look legal. I got pulled over many times by county cops but they never hassle me about the tint. I did get a tint ticket about a year ago when I got pulled over by a VA state trooper.

clear corners couldnt really be illegal in VA? as long as you have an orange bulb you should be alright i would think. and thats pretty crappy that he ticketed you for having 35%. after all 35% is still legal in the back in VA. that cop really must have had nothing else to do with his time.

question about the tint meters. from where can the officer use it and what does it look like? i HAD my windows tinted (35% all the way around) until about a year ago and the VERY FIRST DAY i got them tinted i had a cop driving behing me with a really bright light shining on me. it looked like it was his spotlight (you know the one next to the driver side mirror) but why would he be using that while driving and in the middle of the day?

It's a little hand held device about the size of a box of cigs. He will ask you to roll down your window a bit. Stick the device on the window and measure the light transmission between the outside and inside.
