A/C smells like dog ****

Bought a used 2k, it runs well but there was an odor inside, of dog poop. I cleaned the interior for a couple of hours over the weekend and wiped down the seats with some leather cleaner. Added an air freshener to mask what little smell was left.

Problem is the A/C still spits out the same crappy odor. Anyone else deal with something like this? Should I change the air filter or is there another solution?

MY 2k did not have the in cabin air filter installed as it was an option that year. Installing it helped with the A/C smell. I also cleaned all the leaves out of the area prior to installing.

There is an A/C cleaning product made specifically to deal with A/C funk. While the A/C is running you spray it into the interior air intake.

Are you sure the previous owner didn't leave a stash in the air vents?

that happened to a cousin of mine. but the reason why his used car smelled was because the previous owner ran over a cat or dog and some of its hair and guts were stuck under the car and lodged into the engine....

If it were a dog, poor puppy.... if it were a cat,

lol, since when does a stash smell like dog ****? On a similar note I found a dead mouse under my shifter in my prelude way back in the day. I had a HORRIBLE smell for a few months then when I went to install an STS I found the answer to the smell.

I hope a mouse did not climb into the fan like it did in my NX and die. After a week of cabbage smell, I decided to take the blower out and walla, there was a dead mouse. EEEEW!

Try Fabreez sprayed into the inside air intake, under the right side of the dash, with the a/c running, and set to re-circulate. It works like a charm, and don't let your rottie crap in the outside vent anymore, even if he does like the warm hood to lay on!

They sell a special deodorizer at AutoZone that sprays pepper mint like spray. You put it right under the glove box, turn on the AC on MAX cool with the recirc on and then trigger the aerosol can and let the stuff spray onto the evaporator. Alot of time the mildue will collect on the evaporator and it smells really bad.... this should work pretty good. The Deodorizer also works for cigar smell pretty good.

I used Ozium in the fashion that blackbird described. Worked well. You spray alot of it into the intakes w/ the AC going full blast. Then shut the door and let it recirc for 10 min. Periodically reblasting the area.

I tried the technique recommended by e-carb and blackbird. Although I used lysol, then ozium. It worked great. But then again, I was only battling cigarette smoke and not some dog/cat funk from the netherworld.

I had some luck with Febreeze, when I first got my max there was some nasty rotten-eggs smell coming out of the A/C.. sprayed some Febreeze and it smells just fine now.
