I think we should adjust our model year reference terminology. I think we should refer to the 95-96 year cars as Gen4 and the 97-99 cars as Gen4.5. Same with the 2000-2001 cars as Gen5 and the 2002 as gen 5.5.

There are significant differences in these cases, so this could be helpful. Also, if there are similar differences in the earlier generation cars, we should do the same for them.

What do you think????

So you wanna say my 97 and 2002 will be the same generation?

What exactly are the "significant" differences between the 95-96 and the 97-99? Different tail lights and alloys?!

there isn't any significant differences, just different bumpers and center consule, that's about it

the wiring is little different too, but not too many people on this forum mess with it

so lets just stick with 95-99 is a 4gen

Different steering wheel, Bose radio, bumpers, glass headlights on 95-96, fog lights, grille, groove in the trunk on 95-96s. Can't think of anything else.

sounds good to me

Seeing how a 4th gen will still be a 4th gen and so on, I think it makes logical sense even if most of the differences b/w 4 & 4.5 are cosmetic, they are easy to tell apart from each other.

I like that idea also. It doesn't have to be a formal designation for us but a casual one. Having the .5 term really helps to narrow down exactly which Max you're talking about.

Re: sounds good to me

Yeah maybe it's easy when you write it, but it's different when you say it. For example, we usually say "fourth gen.", but now when referring to 97-99 you'll have to say "fourth and a half gen." or "four point five gen."
Sounds too long for me.

Don't matter to me but...

If you do change don't forget generation 3.5 for 92-94 SE's with the VE motor. It's at least more of a difference than what occured to the 4th gens. We're few in number but demand to be recognized!
