Seat Belt Springer Thinger

Has anyone had a Nissan dealer replace their seat belt retractor? My driver seat belt is so annoying because it never retracts enough when I unbuckle. I did the TSB cleaning to get rid of buildup on the clip but it made no difference.

Since the restraint system has a lifetime warranty, will any Nissan dealer replace this part free of charge or will they claim it's not a necessary repair for safety? Anyone know the part number?

yeah, they will claim you are a worthless customer and to go forth and multiply.

However IMO this should be covered since the belt has to be close to your body in order for it to do its job.

I would take it to the dealer and see what you can do.

I have an 02 I35, just out of warranty, same problem. They told me it was covered and replaced it. Lifetime warranty for safety issues. Course, it still doesn't retract worth a damn, making me wonder if they really did it.

Even on my 92 they replaced my seatbelts under warranty. I had to pitch a little fit and talk to the service manager though. Just stick to your guns and eventually it will be done for free.

BTW, part of the warranty info says they don't have to supply you with a loaner/rental car.

My sister had an 88 prelude that had belt problems. I was told that ANYTHING that makes the seatbelt unsafe is covered for free, FOREVER!!! It doesn't matter if you are the second, third, or ninth owner.

Yeah I know that, but the question is whether a seatbelt retractor that retracts kind of slowly when you're getting out of the car makes the seat belt unsafe. It probably doesn't, but you never know.

That's exactly what mine did (and still does). I simply told them, they said its under warranty as a safety item, and replaced it (so they said).

They know the seat belts have a lifetime warranty, just be sure they know that you know.
