front wheel drive or rear wheel drive?

I believe all of our maxima's are front wheel drive. may i know whats the diffrence between rear wheel drive and front wheel drive because most of the expensive sports car are rear wheel drive then why maxima's are assembled with front wheel drive. the bottom line...which one is more preferable

RWD is preferable anywhere anytime except in low traction situations (snow and rain). Although, I would rather have a slow RWD car in the winter than a slow FWD car.

RWD = is suitable if you have another car to drive in the winter/bad weather
FWD = Perferred for daily driver seeing as there traction in winter or bad weatehr condition is considerably better.

That being said, RWD is much more fun, and if your serious in drag racing, RWD is the way to go, because at a certain point even with slicks its hard to put power to the ground in FWD.

not to mention that you could buy a number of new cars now in rwd that are cheaper than the max, and not much slower. that leaving out all the possible used car purchases. the bottom line these days is you really dont need fwd, rwd cars are so good at getting traction and dealing with traction control its hardly a problem, although if you have to deal with lots of ice (not snow, ice) then yeah you should get fwd

I had a 95 240sx (FR). The difference in handling is night and day compared to the maxima. Maxima feels scary (unpredictable) taking 50mph turns on the freeway. With a 240sx I could take 80mph turns with ease.

You're comparing apples and oranges, regardless of the drive wheels.

The Maxima is a heavy, full-size, long-wheelbase, 4-door sedan.....

the 240 is a 2-door sportscoupe with a shorter wheelbase and weighs about 500 lbs less.

You cannot attribute how well the car "turns" or holds the road to what drive wheels it uses - that is almost entirely related to suspension setup. I can think of several FWD cars that will run circles around a 240, stock for stock. There is a reason why the 240 is not a very popular autocross car....

Immature is making it personal: 26 and trying to figure out why maximas are FWD?

Fine, all things being equal, which is better: FWD or RWD?

My opinion on FR/FF is coming from experience (have only owned a 240sx and a maxima) ...I'm sure that there are FF's that will go around a 240sx(stock for stock) ... 240sx/Silvias are very popular gymkhana vehicles. My opinion: Gymkhana>autocross

i think it may come down to personal preferfence. Id still take a RWD over a FWD but thats me..i remember before i got the maxima i hated fwd, not sure why just didnt like it, once i got the car im use to it, and it doesnt bother me. sure torque steer can be annoying at times, but its not as bad as some people complain about and ive driven some pretty powerful fwd cars (TL, 073.5se 6spd altima, modded 4th gen, modded 5.5gen, modded 05 altima 3.5, supercharged B18 civic--13 second car and so on).

better for WHAT?

This is the lamest discussion ever.

Seriously, the discussion about what is better can go on FOREVER since it's clearly a subjective point. Why not throw in AWD cars, and RR cars, and some MR cars while we're at it?

Alot of posers on here talk alot about drifting events, but almost none of those people has actually ever driven in one. But just like anything else on this forum, everyone thinks it's cool because it's from Japan. Shocker.

each have their benefits and drawbacks..

drag racing: RWD

handling: as irish said, many FWD cars can hold their own against RWD cars (few cars from mazda come to mind) but generally, RWD is better, because two wheels are driving the car and two wheels are turning it, so you can do things like throttle steering, etc. Totally subjective though

bad weather: FWD...think about getting up a hill in snow or rain...would you rather be pushed or pulled?

Daily driving: without pushing a car, you cannot tell at all so if you drive like a law-abiding citizen every day it should not matter that much

I never driven in a event, but got to say that Gymkhana looks like alot of fun (not because it's from Japan). Let the video do the talking: It's a Silvia/240sx

Sometimes my RWD car lifts it's front wheels off the ground. My old FWD cars never had that problem so FWD is a superior setup.
