This morning when parking the car at work, a car behind me moved & since my front end was sticking out & I was on a hill I just turned the key to the on position & moved the shift lever to "n" & rolled back till I was even, I then forgot to turn the key back to the off Position.....long story short, 8 Hrs later time to leave, & battery was dead, it took a jump, and seems fine, however does anyone think I may have weakened the Battery's service life by this incident?

Have you weakened the battery? Most definitely, but you weaken the battery every time you use it, you just probably weakened it bit more. I would definitely recommend having the battery fully recharged using a good battery charger. What type of battery was it? I'm assuming it was not a deep cycle type battery.

You did cause you alternator to work extra hard to charge the battery. As recommended by Gotrice you should put the battery on a full charge with a battery charger to ensure you have the reserve cranking amps when it gets really cold. An alternator is not designed to charge a dead or near dead battery.

 

 

I can leave the keys in the car cause the car is parked in a gated parking lot with armed security guards 24-7, & camera's....

 

Charge it and it should be fine. If not get the free replacement.

A cars alternator puts out somewhere around 80 to 100 amps. More then enough to charge any battery fairly quickly. A typical charge rate is around 30 amps.

Your new battery should be just fine and should charge completely in a few days, depending on how long your daily drive is.

 

I think you missed my point. It's not designed to charge a dead battery. You need to put it on a battery charger for that purpose. If you want to overheat your alternator and shorten the life of it, one of the quickest ways to do that is to use it as a battery charger instead of maintaining the charge.
