Mobil 1 or Redline Oil...?
#1
Sup guys,
I gotta order some MT-90 this week, so I'm wondering if I should put Redline Oil in when I do my S/C. I use Mobil 1 10W30 now. I was looking at the various Redline Oils. Are any of the other weights better for a S/C. Also, Redline says it can go 10K to 14K on the oil. Is that true for a S/C? I mean, Redline is expensive, so I wouldn't want to change all the time.....Thanks.

Hot climates (TX, FL, AZ) should typically use 10W-30.......moderate and colder climates should use 5W-30.....frostbite climates should use 0W-30.....

I'm from NY, and I was told just to use 10W-30. Should I be using 5W-30. That's thinner right? Would that make any performance difference?
Thanks. Oh by the way, you peeps who voted for Mobil....why not redline?

In NY, I would say 10W30 is fine for the summer. However, I grew up in PA and the winters were often cold there, so I can't imagine a NY winter. So, I'm guessing 5W30 is what you need for the winter. It all depends on the temperature range at which the car sits when not in use. Outdoors, 5W30 is needed so that it pumps easy in the cold. However, if you are using synthetic, I don't see how it would make a big difference.
As for why Mobil 1. Well, I knew what it is... I only ever heard of Redlinr through the org here. And besides, if Mobil 1 is good enough for F1 cars and BMW, then its good enough for me. I of course know little about Redline, so maybe I should try it instead of my Mobil 1?

Probably becuase Redline doesn't publish specs on their oil on their website. Hard to trust that IMHO

My main beef with Redline is their lack of technical testing as a backup for their marketing claims.
So, as Amsoil for a point of reference, they halve their recommended intervals when going with boost, which means no more than 12k with 6k filter changes, or every 6 months with a filter change at 3 months (this primarily depends on your driving habits: less mileage means change on time, more mileage means change by mileage).
I would go Mobile 1 at first with the boost, and I would shave the interval down to 8k on Mobile 1 with 4k filter changes.
No matter what, I would go 4k with SYNTHETIC 5W-30 on the blower and then get Blackstone Labs to analyze it and let you know how the oil is doing. In addition, you should get your current oil examined as a baseline to compare......You should modify your change intervals based on the lab results...
Good luck!
