Does anybody know if a 3rd gen 5spd will fit in a 4th gen maxima. I want to get rid of the automatic but cant find a 4th gen 5spd but I found a 3rd gen(SE w/locking diff.) including all shifter and pedal assembly for $750.

Good luck, indeed. You're converting from auto to manual, and to a manual from a different car, no less. You're gonna need a lot of money, time, and luck. If you can do it for less than $5000 free and clear and in under a month's time, I'm impressed. You might wanna re-think it and just get a 5-speed car. My dealer said they wouldn't even attempt something this drastic.

It might work but it ain't gonna be plug and play. You will need a host of things, including a 4-gen 5-sp ecu probably. Plus the 4-gen starter is 12:00 o'clock while the 3-gen starters are 9:00 o'clock orientation. So there some custom work for you there(if there even room/space to mount the slave cylinder on the block on the 4-gen) This and about 15 other things to consider.

Now I'm not gonna say it's impossible. But if you are asking these kinds of questions, then this type of swap(even a 4-gen 5sp to 4-gen auto) is not a project for you.

If you were asking "hey, where can I get a longer slave cylinder hydraulic hose because I need lengthen it for the 3-gen 5-sp", then that would tell me you are close to being done and that you knew what you are doing. But you are not and I think you will just get yourself into more trouble than you could get yourself out of.

Just get Don's VB mod and be done with it.

I would get the VB mod but my automatic tran. is acting up. It stalls the car when you put it in gear after sitting over night. If anyone has any suggestions please tell me!

Your profile says "annville" on it. Only one black '99 with 18's in that neighborhood as far as I know!
Are you going down to Maxus in DC at the end of the month? Check out the threads on it. I'm going and possibly a couple guys from Harrisburg.
