I just read an article in the latest issue of SCC (July 2001) and there was a section about turbo chargers. In the article the writer said something about driving a Maxima that was equipped with a Japanese market Nissan Cima turbo engine. The Nissan Cima is just the Q-45 right? Has anyone heard of this Maxima, or have any info on the compatibility of the turbo in the Maxima. I didn't realize that the Cima was turbo charged....hmmmmm. Any ideas from anyone? Thanks!

why doesn't anyone ever want to talk about this. why does it have to be so secretive that phil has japanese internals in his engine, and he can be the only one. let's talk about this, someone in japan could make some money off this maybe.

I have a turbodiesel in the front of my Max. Wanna see low end torque?

You've definetly injected nitrous. Please stop talking. If Phil wants to keep secrets thats his own deal, live with it.

Like Sprint said, the Cima comes with the 4.5 or the VQ30DET(urbo) engine.

It also comes with a VQ30DD option, which is the one I really want, too bad the gas here sucks.

Ok I'll bite. What would the second "D" stand for?

Perhaps DUAL overhead cam. That's what the D stands for in our engines. The first D is DIRECT injection. Or maybe it's switched, I dunno.

Well I knew the dual part, which would be the first D as in the D in VQ30DE. I had just never seen an engine code with two D's in it.

The VQ30DD is has direct fuel injection, not like the electronic multiport of the VQ30DE, direct into the cylinder. It pushes 240HP and 227ft/lbs of torque. The engine computer has unprecedented control over the air/fuel mixture, very efficient, very powerful engine.

Only problem is that US gasolines tend to have too much sulfur, tends to burn through those sorts of injectors pretty badly.

Ok. Let me get this straight.
Japanese Cima uses VQ30DET which is a vq30de with turbo. What could be so different that we cant throw that monster in our car? Also, can't we just get the turbo off of it and retrofit? Someone please expand on this more.

OT, but Mitsubishi has a direct injection engine also, right? Anyone know which one it is?

I'minterested more in the internals than the whole engine. Much easier to get IMO.Has anyone seen the pistons and rods for the JDM motor? Are they beefier than the ones we have?

Anyone thought about hood clearance? If the 5th gen intake manifold won't fit under a 4th gen hood, the VQ30DET may not either.
