Sanding Calipers Before Painting?????

Guys, is it recommend to sand down the OEM calipers before painting them.

I have some Caliper paint i just from a local Auto store and the instructions do not mention anything about sanding the caliper down.

For those of you who have painted calipers, what do you recommend?

unless they are corroded or something then just wire brush them and spray them down with brake cleaner.

i used a dremel to get rust, brake dust and road grime off of mine. when you first spray them off with brake cleaner it looks ok. but once you put that wire tip on a dremel and go at it, it makes a world of difference

Didn't have a dremel, so I used a drill. Sanded all the rust off and cleaned up with some mineral spirits prior to applying primer.

Heeehahaha!!

i did guys... check it out!!!!

I used caliper cleaner. my calipers werent that dirty, so i didnt need dremel or sanding paper. I did use a heat gun to speed the drying process. The processs was time consuming since I removed the calipers completely off. So I had to remove the pads, plug the brake fluid and then attach, bleed the brake fluid of air, add a little more brake fluid....UGGHHHHH!!!
But i like the outcome of my work....

I used a wire brush attachment on my drill to remove surface rust, then used a grinding bit to remove some of the casting marks to "smoothen" the appearance. Once that was done, I sprayed metal surface primer before painting.

I did mine 3 years ago and they are holding up well. Just a few small chips. Did you use primer and 2 coats of paint?
