Until something is done about the ugly rear 1/4s and tailamps there's not much that can make the car good looking. But 2003 is just a tad over a year away.

good idea... but gunna be weird not seeing all the gxe's around :)

"Nissan plans to roll back Maxima production from nearly 130,000 units to 80,000. The biggest cut will be on the GXE model, which will only account for 5 percent of 2002 Maxima production, down from nearly 20 percent in 2001. The logic here is that most folks will go for a loaded V6 Altima versus a base Maxima."

What's your source for the production numbers? What's interesting is that since the Maxima line is hurting again only 2 years into the generation, instead of doing it the way they did last time, which was that stripped GXEs actually sold for 17 stripped with the rebate (that was an incredible motor to be buying for less than you could get a Civic), looks like they will force people to go SE and GLE. That's a big mistake, because consumers are far more informed in 2001. They know that options are killer profit makers for the mfg. Nissan wants to push convenience packages, alloys, moonroofs, all the stuff that costs them zero but adds a couple grand to the cars. They have got to get the Maxima right for 2003, it's like 3rd and long in the early 4th quarter. But good for the Altima product manager.
