Tire change problem.. help please.

Ok, so I have a 2004 Maxima 3.5 SE, and I get a flat rear-passenger tire. Not really life or death, so I decide to change it myself. I *think* I have 245/s18's, aluminum 5 spoke rims. There are no lug nut locks that need(ed) to be unlocked, as I managed to get all 5 lugs off no problem.

Ok so here is where it gets bad.. with all 5 lugs off, the tire wont move an inch. It is not loose, nor does it feel like it intends to become loose I have no idea why it is this way. I removed the spare fromthe trunk, same wheel/rim/rubber, and had a look to see if somehow its locking from the rear, and it doesnt look like anything would be doing it.

So what could the problem be? I dont think there could be a center bolt/nut holding it on.. because I cant see anything that would do that on the spare.. and I cant get the little 'nissan' lid off the centre of the rim to see inside either.. so Im at a loss..

Does anyone know what Im doing wrong? Ive kicked the tire, placed weight back on it to see if it would pop off the studs, pulled it hard, and nothing will budge it.

Thanks for any help..

Keep beating it if it wont budge. Rims often get stuck to the hub. You did jack up the right rear, right?

Put the lugs back on, hand tight. Drop the car back on to the ground. Drive forward a few feet and slam on the brakes. Reverse a few feet and slam on the brakes again. That should break the rim free. Repeat if necessary. Beats whacking at the rim.

Imagine what the neighbors will think seeing him do this? Too funny!

Nameth,

What about carefully pulling the top of the tire towards you gently but firmly?
Or has this problem already been solved?

just stuck on the hub. you should be able to put the weight of the car back on the wheel/axle and it should break free. considering your location, i know what the weather can be like and the wet/salt/sand misture causes corrosion like no other. the hub just rusted and sealed to the rim.

Not solved yet b/c Im not at home to try anything new yet.. Im going to put a space heater to throw some heat on the rim, just to see if it was frozen.

If that doesnt work.. then its hammer time

PS. Ive beat the sh*t out of the tire already.. still didnt move an inch, and the wheel spins freely while up in the air.

with the car in the air and all but one lug off (leave the 1 lug loose). spin the tire/rim. take your hammer (rubber mallet preffered) and aim for where the tire meets rim, on the back side. make sure she's spinning when you do. corrosion can build up and hold it on there so you have to nock it from several points on the rim.. g/l

if all else fails. get pb blaster to help. spray it on the surface where wheel meets hub and on the studs..

If whacking it doesn't break it loose trying yelling "WHOSE YOUR DADDY???" while you whack. It's proven to add additional strength to a blow. If that doesn't work... you could always try the banshee war call

If the rim doesn't come off easily I just kick it really hard where the tire and rim meet and it always comes off.

We are just sick! Wonder if the tire issue has been solved due to his 'proven added strength to a blow'?

Sad problem, funny solutions.

Nameth, safe to assume it's off by now? If not, take it to a shop and let them try all of the above suggestions.

just put the lug nuts like the guy said almost all the way in and then lower it. If it doesn't come off you can try to drive it a bit.
But don't kick it from underneath as if it falls off the jack it might take your leg with it and half of your bumper. Stay safe guys.

this thread is too funny!

I can only imagine what Nameth is doing just to get this rim off, hahahah

as others have said put the weight of the car back on it and move a few feet and it should come right off.
