I see so many references to Maximas having low resale on the web, but I'm not sure I understand why. Maybe New England is different, but I cant find a decent 3rd generation or later Max for less than 10 grand without 100,000+ miles. Want an SE??? Fuhgetabutit! Lease vehicles coming in after 3 years sell again for $18,000. Even 2000's with 24,000 or so go for $22k. I was always told that Maximas had excellent resale, and I believed it based on what the prices around here are.

hmmm thats weird... i dunt understand it...
usually the norm from what i've seen in my area (San Diego) the 1992-1994 SEs go for 5000-8000, the 95-96s 8000-11000
the '97-99s go 10000-19000
try autotrader.com

dealers are always price bloaters

The 18 price makes no sense whatsoever. 1999 Maxs that listed for 29,400 sold for 22's brand-new. So that would mean after 3 years and 45K they only lose 4.5 grand to depreciation. I honestly don't think so. They lose about 4 grand as soon as you drive it off the lot. But there's your problem--you say a 2000 with 2 years usage goes for what a 4th gen went for new with 0 miles. Put the thumb screws to these dealers you mention, they'll let the 18k car go for about 14k. They'll keep calling you for weeks though and keep lowering the price each time. That's a pain.
