I have a 96SE w/ leather and the drivers side left bolster support has like five 1" tears on it... I'm not that big, weigh about 150. I've been using Lexol cleaner and conditioner regularly. Whats the deal, how did this happen. I know Nissan's paint bites, but also the leather... Am I alone?

Yeah, the factory leather is pretty thin; the leather on my passenger seat did the same thing. I contacted Courtesy last year for a replacement for just the upper section and they quoted me $453. A local upholstery shop wanted $600 to do both front seats (they couldn't guarantee a match with the factory).

I decided to get in on the leatherseats.com group deal back in February. I got leather that is better than factory and in 2-tone for about $600.

Same as with my tan leather seats in my 95 SE before it was crushed, I was gonna order a set of those two-tone seats anyway. Luckily my 96 GLE's black leather seats are in good condition, b/c I got to replace my freakin timing chain... Serenity Now, Serenity Now...

Yup, I have it, really bad. The side bolster on my drivers seat is cracking and you don't even want to see what happeed to the top center of the back seat, it makes me want to cry every time I see it. I have the beige interior, andmost of the leather problems that I have been hearing about is with this color. I'm gonna get it changed soon enough, but go fast goes first. I had posted pics before, but I guess I took them down, I'll search for them.

Called a local upholstery shop...waiting..

I'm awaiting a call back for an estimate. I cant believe it did that.. I take really good care of the interior...It looks immaculate except that section where it started tearing..If its too much, I'll definitly trade this car in around Dec for a 2002 Altima or Max. It would be a good Xmas present... you think??

Nissans!! great engines, lacking toyota quality on fit and finish.. ):

I have a 97 with tan leather interior and the driver's seat is doing the same thing. Has anyone tried putting a little super glue in the cracks? I was thinking this might prevent further tearing.

I'm thinking more of a patch job...

Upholstery guy just called. He does patch work and blends the leather with the existing leather... He then paints it and guarantees his work.. As far as super glue, I dont think it will hold.. You probably need something like carpet glue which is made for fabric, but not sure about leather.. Let me see how this guys going to repair it and how much its going to cost.. I'll let everyone know as soon as possible..

yup same problem here

95 SE, drivers side bolster has those little tears in it. It's sad because the rest of the leather is in near mint condition. I guess this is a stress point where the leather is getting stretched.

I've got a 96SE and my leather is in mint condition. My only problem is the back of the rear seat headrests is really hard so I'm afraid that it may crack soon. I've got a charcoal interior by the way. I remember a post a while back that was talking about the beige leather interiors cracking sooner than the charcoal black....any truth in this ??

Most of the problems are with the tan leather.

haha when I asked the same question one dude blasted me saying I didn't know how to take care of leather!! Yeah right, all you do is use a cleaner/conditioner regularly, how hard is that?

I think the seat heaters make the situation worse, and I notice the cracks mostly in the leather inserts, but the vinyl seems to show more wear than one would expect. There is a big difference in leather quality between the money cars and the rest. There's a 13k car now that has leather standard. The term leather is used more liberally and liberally.

just for the maxima guys!!!

i can do you guys a vinyl for 450.00 bucks. Send me your seats, and I'll pay to ge it shipped back to you. It will take about a week and half to get the seats done. My GLE stock leather got really hard so i got 2 tone vinyl instead.

Only the seating surfaces are made of leather, that means where you put your ****. Headrests and other areas are made of vinyl. If you apply conditioner to the leather and it is still hard, it's most likely vinyl.

Regardless of car, you HAVE to get them treated at least once a year. A car detailer can do this for you (recommended), or if you want, pick up the material yourself, but first check if it matches the type of leather you have.

Luxury is expensive...
