17x7 sized wheels, especially those with 2000+ SE wheels, how is 235/45/17 holding up

What size tire are you guys using??? I am ready to replace my Bridgeston Potenza RE 92's and I'd really like to go with another 225/50/17 tire because of its generous side wall (retain a little comfort) and it fills my wheel well really nicely. Now I've heard that its bad to mount anything wider than 225 on a 7" wide rim. Although I know a guy in my neighborhood who has a 5th gen max with Bridgestone Potenza RE 730's(235/45/17) on his 17 SE wheels. I didn't notice any bulging sidewall and the tire seemed right at home on the rim. So please give me any updated impressions of your tire choice. Feel free to recommend a particular brand and model of tire if its been really good to you.
Side note: I may be able to get a good discount from a Bridgestone tire rep. so any people with Bridgestone Potenza RE 730 feel free to comment. From what I hear this is an excellent sport tire.

I have a extra set of Factory 17s that I am Polishing out completely. Looking to put 235/45R17 tires on those too, probably Yokohama AVS Sport.
My SCCA rims are 17x7.5 Kinesis wheels wrapped in 245/45R17 BFG KDs.
