I have the APC wiring harness for my headlights, and ever since I had my body work done (and drivers side repainted) the driver side bulb has not been nearly as bright as it should be.

The other day I was talking to theblue about it, and he said that he had the same problem, and it was because the gound was bad. Makes sense. So I look at the ground, and the body shop had re-painted (and clearcoated) the fender where I had attached the ground. I don't want to sand or chip that paint (and clearcoat), in fear of voiding my warrenty for the body work.

Can I attach the ground(s) to the negative battery terminal? Will this work the same? Any potential problems?

That will work fine. Grounding to the body is really a convenience thing anyway.
